I've been trying my hand again at inking with nibs and was getting very frustrated by the process (sometimes it was fine, sometimes all blotchy and unresponsive), and after many tries I now realize it's the cheap ass ink I bought that makes it all so tedious :D

I now realize I have never traditionally inked with GOOD black ink. It's always been the cheapest stuff, and never satisfying. NOW I UNDERSTAND!

Big thanks to my partner (also an artist) who passed me her better ink and different types of papers to help out u_u💙

(conclusion: don't buy the french Rougier&Plé ink if you use dip pen nibs!!)

Ahhhhh hell yeah!! Dip pens are so fun!! Its always so cool to see more artists get into them. And yeah the ink can change a lot haha. These look great!

Good ink can make all the difference. Same for painting with inks, quality ink behaves very differently from cheaper inks.

Thanks Ice! you're one of the few artists that encouraged me to try dip pens again (just by posting your own gorgeous art!) <3

Just been getting into dipping ink myself!! been using Deleter, mostly bc there's a picture of a cat on it but it's so nice and fun to draw with. Doing inktober with it is so fun!!

It's amazing how much of a difference high quality supplies can make to a process. I went through a not dissimilar experience with leatherworking. Short version of my story: Buy good quality leather. Skip the cheap stuff.

ooh I see you tried out maru, but what other nib shapes have you tried? (other Japanese ones like School or G? American? etc)

There are some ways you should save money and some ways you absolutely shouldn't.

Yajoovya

Nice, so that's what you use!

I really like these, especially the third one.

I only have a maru and a School (tachikawa), but i've gone ahead and ordered more to try 'em out :)

I can recommend "Winsor & Newton", though I only do calligraphy, not painting
