Pia: "Yes!!! I will get these beautifully drawn insects and buggers some nice gifts at the Bug Market to apologize for wanting to terrorize them!!!" Emily: "A Flea Market is not a market for bugs, its for humans." Pia: "Oh... right..."

Lilly

Oh the sound of the lawnmower mimicking its "mouth" is great! Gotta love Emile. For some reason I've just wondered this now, but is her name pronounced like "pee-ah" or...?

Deckerbunny

I, too, will look for any excuse to get out of mowing the lawn (even if for slightly different reasons)

The Bird

If I can ever afford my own house, I'm replacing the lawn with a flower garden asap

Otaku Twenty-Four Seven

We got my brother's lawn mower now almost for the same reason as Pia, because they converted their garden into a meadow and let it grow wild and let the animals and insects do the gardening naturally! Hurrah!

I 100% feel these feels. I've actually be re-engineering my human/nature ecosystem such that I can minimize this sort of disruption, and even do it without having to use vehicles of massive destruction like mowers. =D

THE TEETH HAVE TEETH

Ethan

First part was that instead of a grass lawn, I grew a little meadow of clover and people walking resistant creepers like Creeping Thyme. It doesn't grow more than ~18" tall, and some wildflowers have mixed in, which is nice too. For the most part, I can let it go, but if I want to cut it back a bit (also good for the soil as, compared to grass, the mix is actually very nutritious for the soil) I might use a small electric weedwacker, but I can actually get away with a scythe or just spot cutting the taller bits with manual hedge clippers. And I only need to do it once or twice a year to keep the height very reasonable for walking/lying. It's when I use the weed wacker and see the little frogs and crickets and bitties go hopping away that I imagine that same scene. With the scythe I imagine it being a little less so.

I cannot believe the people who would insist on clearcutting something like this, nor the mindset of the municipalities (hello, certain Detroit suburbs!) which insist that it be done!

nice! yeah, with grasses if you don't cut them you get these annoying seeds that get stuck everywhere. so i see how that would be step 1.

Ethan

Comparatively, the typical grasses planted for lawns do not create very deep roots/soil, and while the stabilize the top soil, they're not much good for the broader ecosystem. They also grow fast and tall if you let them, and they are thirsty drinkers, craving plenty of water. On top of that, most people who work to preserve a "perfect lawn" do so by constantly amending it with pesticides and herbicides and pH adjusters. At best, a pristine lawn is a homogeneous and comparatively inert zone... =)

I can't due to neighbors but I know the very front part is mostly native grasses and those that grow in the area with little care. The back is not but we are trying to put in other non grass like grass (Yarrow) to help with this.
