The song that is sung over the opening Simmons montage is called 'God Help the Girl' which was written for the 2009 film of the same name, but it could have honestly been written for Jemma. The lyrics of the song really describe her state of mind right now. The montage includes Jemma using a dead drop (putting her used fast food wrapper in a specific bin) indicating she needed a meeting with Coulson. This ties in with a line that Coulson says in the first episode, "Sorry. That's all I can give you. Try to move up with your head down. And, hey, only use the dead drop from now on. There aren't enough pay phones left in this country.", showing that even though we don't see her Simmons is at least on the other end of the line to Coulson. A nice little nod to repeat viewers! In 1x20 Fitz asks Simmons if she is HYDRA to which she categorically states NO. To which the writers say "Hehe, just wait!". And finally, the trope that Jemma is a terrible liar takes another turn! She admits that she is not a good liar but over the last season she has improved dramatically (in 1x17, Trip tells her that she is not a good liar to which she responds " I know, but I'm getting better at it!") and now the ultimate test when she outwits Bakshi, one of the Hydra bosses. 'Making Friends & Influencing People'....job done!

I love the Fitz Ward scenes this episode and the misdirect with Simmons being "Hydra." This season is all about change and our characters all have changed so much and we are only in season 2. I really do appreciate your thoughts on this show though I can never tell if you are annoyed with the plot twists or impressed with them. Maybe a bit of both lol.
