This was written to work enough as a series finale because they weren’t renewed for another season yet. Same goes for the next. Alphonso Mackenzie. Director of Shield (nodding in approval) Daisy’s got a power boost RIP Talbot. He was a hero who sadly became the villain Yup, Fitz from the present is still in space on the long journey to the future. And now he can be recovered from it. Once the Fitz we followed was sent back to the past, he was basically a variant.

One of the cleverest touches in the season is that its final emotional beat — Coulson and May standing on a beach beneath palm trees — is present from the opening frame of the first episode, concealed in plain sight within one of Robin’s childlike drawings on Enoch’s fridge door. Another lovely detail comes when Jemma packs the photograph of herself and Fitz: it’s the same selfie they took outside the Incan temple in the second episode of the series, 0-8-4. The writers were consistently excellent at weaving subtle callbacks and visual echoes from earlier episodes into later storylines. Honestly, this would have made a perfectly fitting series finale in its own right, though I’m still glad we received two more — if somewhat shorter — seasons afterward.

If you notice the team at the end they were all wearing black for Coulson's goodbye but also in his speech he talks about how they all suffered losses. Even though the show will never mention the snap directly the timing of that moment would have been at least hours if not a day after it happened. Our team spent months already use to the world population being 99% gone so the snap from a story point of view would not hit them as hard especially knowing it could have been way worse. They all survived the snap. (Thought any side characters you don't see in these last to seasons could have been snapped instead) The Fitz this season was a variant. He belongs to Deke's timeline. Our Fitz has been gone this whole season frozen in space with Enoch watching over him. So in the Cracked Earth timeline Talbot absorbed Daisy and used her powers causing a massive earthquake. Yoyo convinced coulson to give up the serum which made him decided to put it in her gauntlets. Future her said she couldn't change anyone's choices but especially coulson's. This time she did by talking to him
