This episode is PHENOMENAL second time rewatching having completed the series. Lots for subtle foreshadowing that you would think was just trippiness for the sake of being trippy

What Elliot experienced in this episode was not "a trip". He was not "on drugs", he was withdrawing, which is actually the polar opposite of being on a drug. What was depicted in this episode is what is known in the context of visual storytelling as "a dream sequence".

I'm on my first rewatch, and even I thought it was amazing. This whole show is a masterpiece (especially cinematography and music IMO, but also many other aspects, like writing of course), but this episode definitely stands out.

Also, regarding the daemon thing, what Imon read is right, it's a background process in terms of computing, but it kind of has a double meaning of "demon", although it's not as common to spell it like that. I think the episode kind of touched on that double meaning, but they were mostly using the background process meaning as an analogy. That's one very minor criticism that you could throw at this show - some of the concepts only very computer savvy people would understand. However, none of those are ever really crucial to the story itself.
