The Cut From Halfway Down

Damon Garcia

Is it not syncing properly for anyone else?

Damon Garcia

After the cut I feel like they’re on a different part

yeah the sync doesn't fix perfectly I had to find it myself ,not too hard tho you can tell based on their reactions

Ilana Pallazola

This was kind of a bummer. Editing team, I know you're doing your best, and I appreciate that, but this was just a bummer. I was just really excited about this reaction. It wasn't ruined or anything, obviously (pro tip, turn volume to max and you can hear their audio and use that to sync) its just a bummer that this would happen on this reaction of all episodes. No hate, you guys are doing your best, just. Idk. Bummer.

Matt

I was able to sync back up after the cut based on when they mentioned "swimming".

Ilana Pallazola

On the reaction itself though, amazing as usal, appreciate you guys being so open on camera, everybodys situation is different, but I really related a lot to what imon was saying about making up all this shit in your head (call it emotional scizophrenia for me) and wondering if you'd still be here if not for certain things. We're on the same med actually, got on zoloft a couple months ago, its been amazing, hope it helps you as much as it helps me. Your openness about your own struggles is very helpful and I couldn't appreciate you guys more.

for those who r tryna sync it up again, 20:52 of this full reaction vid is at 7:45 of the episode

IE the part where they talk about Herb's philanthropy;I think the "Helping others is selfish because it makes you feel good " argument is such bullshit. Every decision you make has upsides and downsides. That doesn't make the decision inherently selfish. Like if option A gives you a larger and more immediate sense of happiness, but you choose option B which gives you less happiness, yet some iota of happiness all the same, but it also helps other people, then clearly you're not choosing option B to be selfish.

Lmao, I have so emotionally charged things to say about this episode, so I went for the least emotionally charged one haha.

The discussion was deeply moving. ❤️

This was a very frank discussion, I really appreciate this. Certainly is a very scary episode and can bring up a lot. I hope you don't take people's comments to heart too much. Usually people have had way more time to digest the episodes and read all the discussions. I don’t think I could gather my thoughts at all for an immediate summary like this, haha. Also I think it's perfectly normal to empathise with Bojack even with things he’s done, if for no other reason than it’s a TV show. I think as a viewer, you just subconsciously get behind a protagonist (to an extent,) maybe even more than a real person you read about. But also I feel with Bojack the writers really deliberately made a lot of things grey, or at least tried to make you understand where some actions came from. Not necessarily defend, just empathise, and still want to hope for the best.

I would love to participate and give my thoughts on the show overall and this episode specifically but I legitimately don't think I could put it into words. This show is everything to me and the best TV show I've ever watched. I often listen to "The View From Halfway Down" as someone who is going through an extremely difficult time and a few times in my life "made peace" with the idea that I was ready to end it all because I just can't see the point in existing every day if I have to do it in the mental and physical state that I am in. There's a Bojack quote where he says something along the lines of "I don't understand how people can get up every day and say yeah, let's do it. How do you do that? I don't know how?" I wake up with that thought every day, "how am I supposed to make it through today"? "The View From Halfway Down" while dark in context for me is the pinnacle of anti suicide. A reminder that once you take that step you're going to wish you hadn't and it's honestly kept me going.

Dune

Man what a doozy of an episode, reaction and discussion. I agree with everyone else that yeah this a very scary episode. Even though we know that everything that lives will die one day, it's not an easy thing for us to accept. We spend our whole lives trying to get a true place of happiness and then the next thing you know it's all over. It's a very sad realization but it's unfortunately the one truth of this world. Now in regards to religion and everything. As an african I feel like christianity is very strong in most african households but I'm the one black sheep of my family. My mother has tried to push god and christianity so hard on me that it's ruined my view of the religion as whole. Like I think christians are some of the worst people in the world. Of course not all but some. I was basically taught they everything I do in life needs to be in service to god and that god should be the main person I give my love to and so on and seeing how my mom is I can say that I would never wish that on my kids. My mom is someone who doesn't enjoy life. She's been in america for over 30yrs and she has nothing to show for it. She doesn't travel, she doesn't enjoy different cuisine, she never goes out, she doesn't try to find love, nothing. And when I asked her why doesn't she go out and enjoy life she tells me she doesn't need any of that. She just needs jesus christ in her life and she'll be happy with that. It's things like that that make me believe yeah Christianity is a cult and some people are drinking more of the kool-aid than others. Regardless of all that I have found my bits of happiness that keep me going everyday. Anime and video games. Those two things bring me so much joy and prevent me from going down that dark path that wants me to just end it all and I've had a lot of days like that too but it helps me to keep on keeping on. I could go on and on and on but I wish everyone in this comment section, everyone who watches these reactions and imon and abi themselves all the happiness in the world. We only get 1 life and we deserve to have the best life possible.

I can relate almost exactly to your experience having a Christian mom. Especially one who immigrated from another country. It’s very hard to see what their belief systems can do to then and those around them. Always a joy reading your comments 💕

This episode was gave a perfect feeling of looming dread. At the dinner table they were all eating the last things they had before dying. Herb dying from his peanut allergy; Bojack only had pills. I loved the conversation Bojack had with Buttersotch / Secretariat, a combination of the two big male role models of his life. Much like we talk about how Beatrice and Bojack have different fears and bad experiences molding their flaws and dysfunction, Bojack's dad admitted his distance and mean attitude comes from a fear of letting them down and not being able to be the man his family needed. The view from halfway down was a really great and suspenseful poem which does justice to his dad's otherwise poor reputation as a writer. Getting that close to the end and starting to regret the drastic decision and understanding it wasn't too late too change until he jumped.
