Malthus is standing behind him like the Grinch on Christmas morning, eagerly awaiting the sound of an exorcist's breaking heart

I feel the need to remind him that he's zero for two in the Expected Ethan Reaction department

malthus showing his clear lack of understanding of human relationships (or relationships at all really) and i really hope ethan turns around totally straight-faced and just goes "they look happy" or something

Magic Bat

Malthus, you perverted voyeur! Ethan, don't look! It's past life you! That's like looking at your dad or something idk how reincarnation works

brashion

Hopefully Ethan will cycle through any stages of grief quickly.

FleshWeakling

Well I mean it's not like Al was forbidden to have a life before Ethan, even without the context of the same soul it just proves that Al has an ex, he has the right to, what did you hope to accomplish exactly Malthus ?? I hope Ethan just looks at time deadpan and goes "yes and ??" And it also shows Ethan he's not the only one to have been in love with a demon !

Yura_Punk

You think Malthus knows about Malki lol? It's not like Ethan is some virgin expecting Al to have saved himself to one person, notwithstanding the fact that of all people Ethan knows how complicated love can be. oh Malthus you freaking walnut. 😆

Theo

The aside look on Malthus’ face says it all! He misses his brother and he will never know what it is to be in love. I just know it will be Zero for Three with this last ditch effort! How could Ethan be upset when he has had a number of partners, himself! This was a love Al had many years before, and he is actually witnessing his own cosmic soul with Al! I hope that with their shared vision, Ethan will instantly realize the bond and break out of this scenario and slowly (but quickly as time is ticking) destroy Malthus at his own game! You have to give us a great ending, as reality is getting shittier by the minute! 😩🙏🏼😘🥰

I was wondering when Ethan was going to see this. Even if he doesn’t know who he is, Ethan’s going to remember the night Al woke Ethan up because of Malthus’s illusion, when Ethan felt Al’s heart break. Plus, I’m pretty sure he’s going to recognize Al as Stryder and Adrian Lafayette.

Angie

Part of me thinks Ethan wouldn't be mad at knowing that Al had a past lover that he actually loved? Like... wouldn't that just affirm his belief that Al loves him? Because he's shown that Al's loved before? I feel like this is just gonna make Ethan sad for Al :'c And I agree with the above comment, I think he's gonna recognize the heartbreak feeling.

camelotcrusade

Ethan may want Al all to himself, but above all I feel he wants Al to be happy. Here, he very much is. 🥰

alex

I know this isnt that important but I wonder what room adrian and AL/ stryder are in. Cause that doesn’t look like the academy. Maybe Malthus added his own details.

Ansixilus

Mal: "This one is true. I haven't altered it." Every sane person: "You've done nothing but lie and manipulate since I met you, why would I believe that you're telling the truth now? Zero credibility, I'm gonna assume all evidence you provide is doctored."

Silvera

Hmmm we definitely need more Adrian and Al past time sexy comics... For science and stuff 😉 Also, Malthus you dipstick, healthy relationships don't get broken that easily.

ok yes, all of the other reactions above are 100% valid and probable. but we also know that ethan is a kinky little shit , just as much as Al is but in different ways. this is a very serious scene and im sure it's going to be the "yeah? and?" but i hope theres some silly alternate panel that's like '-bites lip- so uh. can i interact the memory ;3 ' it's making me laugh ok AND I KNOW IT"S PROLLY NOT GONNA HAPPEN bc the tension is ratcheting up, but im giggling about it anyway

Oh, sorry if this was not a missed detail. Al isn’t wearing his collar. Wasn’t sure if we were meant to think he didn’t have it in this scene. Those expressions are amazing! (Edit . . . Ooooh. Ok. Nice.)

I’m also wondering whether Ethan might somehow remember this. Not sure how reincarnation and memory will work here, but he’s literally stuck with a Collector of souls, so he’s pretty in tune with his soul right now. His soul definitely remembers, since he can’t turn one eye off and Adrian said he’d keep one eye on all the time if he could. I am pretty sure Malthus is just going to make him more powerful by doing this crap, lol.

"...I know this room." "...what did you say?" "I know this room. How do I know this room?!?" "Wha-" "Daaaaaancing bears, paaaaaaainted wings. Things I aaaaaalmost remeeeeember."
