Something about the main menu and game cover had been bothering me for a while. Sofia's eyes didn't look quite right, and the lighting felt like it could be improved.

So I went back and re-rendered the same scene in 4K, and I'll be replacing the old version with this new one.

Do you notice a difference, or is it just me? 🙂

Also, going forward, I’ll be adding some 4K images in-game for special scenes. Not too many though, since rendering in 4K takes a lot of time.

Cheers!

no content, no update, no ETA… but behold, another ultra-HD distraction! 🤣 bro is shipping wallpapers instead of updates it’s been almost 2 months since the last update and tbh who really cares about 4K? 😜 4K users is like <5% the vast majority is still using 1080p while some are on 1440p... (latest steam survey)

I have been providing sneek peaks almost regularly, not sure if you've seen them. And yes, I still don't have an ETA. So, the "no content, no update" part of your comment is actually not true... I don't need to do extra work just as a distraction... The work I'm doing, be it 4k or 1080p is either to enhance the game or to give some eye-candy while the Chapter is in progress.

Don't worry, the difference is night and day, and I love the higher quality and an OLED user (on 1440p, but stuff like menu's and some static images where there's a lot onscreen do look nicer in 4k).

There is a slight difference. Relatively minor. It is better.

Right, besides the better definition, the new render has better lighting as well, and one small correction to Sofia's pose... Now she's looking more directly to the viewer :)

Just to provide more details. The new image was rendered in 4k and is zoomed-out 50% in the Main menu of the game, just so it gives a better overall look. Cheers!

I game on a 4K OLED at native resolution and I can clearly see an improvement. Thanks for taking the time to cater for a minority - it's really appreciated.

Yes i can see it too , but i realy don't know of all the work is worth it....

Calm down there are people here who waited 3 months for updates....not here !! If the developer need more time there is no problem in waiting a bit.....my opinion :) !!

I'm working on the game during all my free time, including weekends and holidays, but I have another "8 to 6" job, so there is only so much I can do. If I see fit, I'll break Chapter 4 into 2 (or 3) parts, just so I can release more often, but there's no miracle, I'm a "one man army" on this project, and I'm trying to make the game as good as possible with the time and tools that I have :)

grimagrima

One of my many problems is that I'm kind of a perfectionist... So, sometimes I'm trying to improve just that little bit that keeps bugging me... But I won't spend too much time on something that won't bring a noticeable improvement to the game or it's story. As a matter of fact, I hate rendering in 4k, because my damn computer freezes half of the time, and I end up having to slice the render into small chunks just so it can render :)

Resolution: on a 65inch 4k TV can't really tell a difference going from 1080p to 4k. That's probably easier to notice for those sitting right up against a computer monitor on a desk. Maybe the painting on the wall seems sharper in the newer version. The couch in the foreground now has more of a texture - went from white leather to a fiber or cotton material but I suppose that has more to do with the change in lighting. Lighting: you can tell the lighting on Sofia and Bob is a bit less strong though I find her smile looked a bit warmer or happier in the previous version with less self-shadowing. Focusing on Sofia's eyes - which are a really tiny part of the picture - in the newer version you can more clearly tell she has pupils now and the iris is less glowy. The eyes of other guy on the couch also no longer appear to be squinting or closed. Now there's a phone on the table? Honestly would never have noticed the difference. All I usually pay attention to in the main menu is quickly clicking on the buttons for play/start, load/continue, options/preferences and exit.

Sure, you do you man. I'm just here to provide real and honest feedback and I really do feel like I represent more people than you/or someone else might think. The "I'm a solo dev" excuse doesn't really work anymore nowadays tbh. I can list you some Solo Devs right away that develop literally in the same category as you (NTR/Cheating/Cuckold VNs) and manage to release updates on a monthly basis with the same or sometimes even more content and quality... 1. Sieglinde 2. Aleksandr 14 3. Fujino/淺上フジノ these are just a few off the top of my head, there are probably more if I actually go and check. I'm just sayin. I'm not here to stir up drama, if it works for you, if you've found "your people" that support you through all of that and it's enough -> GOOD, I'm happy for you! But don't be surprised or shocked if one day you notice that there is no motion anymore, no gains, because idk maybe you listened to the wrong people or thought you listened to the right people. People nowadays have way more choices to spend their hard earned money. Or... choose not to because XYZ... like no frequent updates, bad quality, bad this, bad that or simply not trustworthy -> "he's gonna abandon it anyway" type shit, but yeah you probably already know all that.

You're supposing that Grima isn't honest about his output with us or that he is not open to all sorts of feedback, none of which is true. Chill.
