Sometimes life makes it hard for you to show up in order to do your best. And at times it's hard to even show up at all. So, what's the point of going out there and trying in the first place?

I was thinking about it lately, how in moments like these our tiny efforts seem to be so silly and fruitless in the grand scheme of things. It's so tempting to just give up. If you can't offer something worthy, then why even try to offer anything at all, right?

Wrong. Every day that you show up and take a step forward, no matter how big or small, it's still a step forward. It's a lot like fishing. Sometimes you don't know if you're gonna catch a good fish. But if you don't go, you won't catch anything, and that's the only thing that's known for certain.

So yes, there is a point in being strongly rooted in your routines and doing the practical day-to-day work despite everything, even if those seem insignificant and small at first. And there is a point in simply trying to show up, even if you feel like it won't lead to anything fruitful.

You never know when exactly your big tuna is gonna appear, that's true. But you'll definitely miss it if you don't even make it to the water 🀍🌊✨

This makes me wonder what people think when I'm too tired or depressed to say good morning in the discord...

Beautifully said Solar! Some wonderful advise! It's got me wondering, is Solar a big fisher? I cant imagine it tbh but that and the last paragraph(that rounded it up so perfectly) gave me a massive smile

I'm as far from fishing as one can be tbh haha, sorry to disappoint πŸ™ˆ but I do love a good metaphor though! 😁

πŸ«‚πŸ€ take your time, there's no pressure to be social if you don't feel like it

Nahhhhh man, you're good! πŸ«‚ As a chronic lurker, you are one of the more active ones and no one would or should judge you. Especially in this server, I feel like we've got a good bunch here, we're all here to help and care for one another so none one would think negatively of you for it, and why should they? So relax my man. Plus I think this stuff applies to more serious things, you cant do it with everything otherwise you'll definitely wear yourself thin and burn out. So it's about prioritising stuff and applying it to the important stuff, and in ways you can see it will set you up in the long run. That's how I interpreted it anyway.

Reading this reminds me of my art and thought process to drawing. I often struggle to start some drawings that I have lots of ideas for and end up not doing anything at all. To compensate, I draw some other stuff to get me in the zone. Reading this advice though helps because it reminds myself that it's ok to not do much for a drawing and that even a small part of it is a great first step. So thank you Solar for the wisdom!β™₯️

It actually gave me a silly flash back to playing pokemon on my DS and trying to catch rare pokemon in the water. Fishing for ages until I found the right one πŸ˜… maybe a bit too literal in this case haha.

Thank you Solar. Life has been heavy lately and I’m struggling to see the point of everything. You’re words truly mean a lot!β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

So well said, Solar! Reminds me of this quote from Stephen Colbert: "Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don't learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying 'yes' begins things. Saying 'yes' is how things grow. Saying 'yes' leads to knowledge. 'Yes' is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say 'yes.'" So much of life really is about showing up and "saying yes" consistently. I find that I don't always have the capacity to show up in the ways that I want to, but I think that as long as I'm making the effort, it'll be recognized and appreciated. πŸ’— Also is that an Andy Bernard reference in the last paragraph? πŸ‘€πŸŸ

So true miss solar. Thank you for everything you do for us.

Even if it is it wasn't intentional πŸ™ˆ just a stream of my thoughts basically haha

Oh, no worries at all! I’ve just been rewatching The Office a lot recently so I guess it’s fresh on my mind haha
