hello!

recently i've been getting feedback about preference for full length reactions. originally, i had the timers done by counting down, and keeping the unblurred video and normal audio up for the first minute of the content and then removing both. i brought them back every 10 minutes for resync opportunities. an example of that method is herei got feedback especially for doctor who that copies may be very different depending on where you are watching and on what service/method so then i changed it to the more recent method of keeping the video up the whole time, blurred with audio on the whole time. however i am now getting feedback that that isn't ideal either.

since you guys are the ones watching this, i thought i'd do a poll of which one you prefer! i think if i were to do the original method, i could potentially bring the video/audio back every 5 minutes instead for 30 seconds, instead of every 10 minutes. but keep in mind i do generally have to follow copyright so these are really my only two options.

thank you!

This is only my personal opinion but I stopped watching the timer video's after it was changed recently. I am a musician and sound engineer and cannot keep my concentration with the two full audio streams going on.

Unfortunately DW has always been an issue with reactors, especially those living outside the UK/EU as the show’s frame rate differs. I believe it fixes itself once the show moves to HD after s4.

Vedsång

FYI: I live in the EU and have no issue with any of the shows including the US ones.

Mark McKeown

Yeh that’s because any US shows we get are in the same format in which they aired. But the UK shoots differently, or atleast used to, so it’s more so a problem going the other way.

I personally prefer 30 sec to a min at the start to sync sound and then just use the blurred image to see if sync got lost; I don’t need continuous checks. But if it makes others happy, I’d very much prefer that to the whole audio file as it’s extremely hard to get it so perfectly synced that I’m not trying to deal with the two audio sources.

There are a few different ways I've seen full-length reactions done across the Patreons I am (or have been) subscribed to. These include: - 30s of audio+picture, then just audio, no picture - 30s of audio+picture, then blurred picture, with audio - 30s of audio+picture, then blurred picture, no audio - 3,2,1 - just timer clock And variations. Of these I like blurred picture+no audio, and no picture+audio the best. For the later, the audio needs to be loud enough so I can use it instead of the program audio. Because what I've learnt is that syncing two sources of the same audio is hard - you can always hear a slight mismatch and it's annoying. Syncing audio with picture is easier - you can be out by half a second and it still looks like it matches. (Animation is even better as it's much more forgiving) If there are timing issues - common problems are 4% speed up and longer "ad breaks" - it's helpful to have the blurred pic to refer to. A lot of waffle to say I voted option 2 ;)

LatePaul

This is why I mute the program audio once I've synced it.

LatePaul

This has been my experience too. It's not so much whether it was HD as to whether the original was shot on film and how they transferred it. But the change happened at the same time as the switch to HD. If you have the programs available on a file you can use a program like VLC to play it back at x 0.94 and that should fix it. That's the frame rate issue. Some other shows have an issue with longer gaps where they the ad breaks were.

Chris

Greatly prefer current method of audio the whole time. Old way made things much more difficult.

Vedsång

I tried this a few times but Emme's comments is far louder than the show's audio, I use professional studio monitors and these different audio levels need compressors / limiters to listen too (read: too much hassle). I really hope Patreon will be able to support multiple audio tracks to be used with video posts in the near future (this is already possible on a technical level but they havn't implemented this on Patreon (yet)).

eladrin22

If anyone is getting issues with the audio constantly on, you can try muting the audio in your own version. It may not match up exactly, but you won't get the echo issue.

Mark McKeown

Yeah some eps are 29.97 but majority are 25. Ive only been watching Emme’s edits, but when it gets to the eps I want to watch the fulls of - and for when its come up in the past - I do own digital copies and just import them and the full in to Premiere Pro and make my own PiP, sometimes having yo stretch the footage depending on the above.

Mark McKeown

Emme if there’s one thing you’ll learn about the DW fandom, no one agrees on anything. Won’t be surprised if this ends in a 50/50 split!

Vedsång

Emme, no mather what the outcome of this pole is, we will find a sollution I am sure. Now or in the near future...

Corthos Entertainment

Personally I’ve always liked having the blurred video up the whole time, but audio muted so I can listen to it on HBO Max. But I adjust to whatever, and as long as you’re enjoying MAKING the content, then I will enjoy watching it 😊

Something Blue

Blurred pic without audio is the most flexible and easiest to sync up, as I don't need to be as precise. It also means I can adjust either the reactor audio, or the show audio if one is too quiet or too loud.

SeeJay

The good news with Doctor Who is that by the end of season 4 all versions will be in sync.

Edward Olson

Technically, you are still in violation of copyright by providing the audio. I cannot stand not having the audio in perfect synchronization, which is a challenge getting once, and a horrible inconvenience if I need to pause and resynch. NEITHER OPTION you have in the poll works, so I'm not voting for either.

Edward Olson

I see the votes are going for keeping the audio the whole time, in which case I'll probably cancel because I'm not going to watch it that way.

Edward Olson

No one here needs the audio from your copy.

Indgo04

I need the audio on the whole time as I play doctor who on one computer then play your reaction on the other with my headphones plugged into your reaction. So if the doctor who audio was muted on your reaction I wouldn’t be able to hear it at all.

Indgo04

I think your misunderstanding my situation. Neither of my computers have 2 monitors. Thus if I want to see both the show and the reaction I have to have it on 2 computers. But my headphones can only plug into one, so if the reaction didn’t have audio I couldn’t hear the show.

You’re entitled to your own opinion as much as others are entitled to theirs. You don’t have a right to speak over theirs and there is not one “right” option. I’m sorry and confused to why you are upset by this poll but as you said in another comment you can feel free to cancel since the outcome of this poll is not your preference. So please do that over pushing back on anyone else’s opinions. I deleted your responses to others because I will not uphold a space where people feel like they will get pushback when they just share their preference and opinion.

Aldo Gonzales

I’m definitely okay with audio throughout. It’s how The Normies operate. The only thing I could suggest is balancing the volume however you can – whether you lower the volume on your mic or increase the volume on the movie or show.

emmereacts

I usually make my mic louder in editing since my mics quiet but I could try keeping it quiet to be more balanced with the show!

Vedsång

New update, if your timer video has a good balence between the original video audio and your comments, I can mute the audio on the other streamed video and nothing else is needed. If I stream both your timed video and the original video on the same computer (mac) with the same browser (normally Chrome) I never had any synch issues after the video's are synced (well enough) in the start of the video. Thanks for you comment!

emmereacts

I started editing videos this way to test it out this week! The first one will be on Thursday

Mark McKeown

You could always just window both the reaction and the episode and play them side by side, or make one full screen and drag the other over the top. Definitely don't need 2 monitors to achieve it
