This series is very much in the same boat as Agents of Shield for me. Was pretty meh on it at the beginning but once it found it's identity the series was amazing. At the beginning Torchwood it just felt like edgy Doctor Who but overtime grew to become something amazing and rather special.

I don’t know exactly why but the first 2 episodes (I have seen sofar) reminded me of Agents of SHIELD.

Don't worry, the show gets better as it goes, and there's not really another episode like this that just feels like it's trying to be "adult" for the hell of it. Yeah, the accent you're picking up on is Welsh, the city Torchwood is set in, Cardiff, is the capital of Wales, so most of the supporting cast are Welsh. Of the main cast, only Gwen and Ianto have Welsh accents. MI5 is the British security agency, I think the closest US equivalent is the NSA.

I agree with most, if not all of your conclusions so no need to go further into that. What I would like to share is that both Dr. Who and Torchwood are made by BBC Wales and therefor this series is based in Cardiff, I personally know a few people from Wales and I can say that Carrys her accent sounds pretty authentic to me!

Maybe, if you want, you could check out the other Doctor Who spinoffs, such as ' The Sarah Jane Adventures series, which is rather good.

yh it's welsh i personally don't know anyone in cardiff who has the accents though
