this (and the 2 parter coming up) are my favourite doctor who episodes of all time. theyre stunning in every way, and really a testament to how good the writing can be sometimes

Omino

This was the most intense episode out of all season

Diljabar

He will knock four times.

Drake

well considering its not an epsiode and not part of a season but a standalone special thats meaningless xDD

A bit of context for the Doctor's knowledge of ancient Mars: a recurring villain of the classic series were the Ice Warriors, lizard-like humanoids who inhabited Mars for the longest time, and were fierce, ruthless warriors but ones with strict codes of honour and loyalty. Long overdue an appearance!

the “Time Lord Victorious” arc was actually first teased in Voyage of the Damned by Mr Copper “if you could decide who lives and who dies, well, then that would make you some sort of monster” i love the way rtd threaded every little thing throughout this era

The thing about this episode is the Doctor's hubris ruined a very legitimate chance to do the right thing harmlessly. All he had to do was bring the survivors to a nice, safe civilization in some other part of spacetime, where they could live full lives but would be presumed dead in 2059. Not the happiest ending for anyone's families but it's better than nothing. But he had to give in to the god complex and that doomed Adelaide as surely as the Flood did.
