here is my edited and full opacity reaction to doctor who season 7 episode 9 "hide"

this was such a fun episode!!! i loved the time setting and ghost hunting aspects.

This was supposed to be a crossover episode, but they could not get the rights sorted in time. The Professor was originally meant to be Professor Quatermass. You may not know the name but back in the 1950's and 60's the BBC made a scifi series that would inspire a young Ridley Scott who would go on to make Alien, and also a certain little tea-time show called Doctor Who, the series was The Quatermass Experiment and its followup Quatermass and the Pit. The backstory for the character is pretty much retained in this episode, but the name unfortunately had to be changed. A shame as it would have been a very nice nod to a classic piece of British scifi television that inspired so many others Who included.

A young Ridely Scott worked on Doctor Who in the early days of the show. He was originally tasked with designing the Daleks, but for various reasons was unable to do so and the task went to someone else. Quatermass was somewhat groundbreaking for broadcast Television in the UK, it was the firt serious attempt at scifi for adults. So much so the horror movie company Hammer House of Horror made a movie version of Quatermass and the Pit. Its not bad for its time at all, and it and the original tv show are worth taking at least a look at on youtube or such, just to see one of the big inspirations for Who's creation.
