Yes originally this was shot with Matt Smith but in a way that it could be updated for future repeats with the Doctor at the time hence Ncuti. The Avengers mentioned here was an 60's TV show. It was a kind of espionage series although more sci fi fantasy elements came in during later series. It ran from 1961 - 1969.

I went to Tardis Con in 2023 and Carol Ann Ford (Susan, the granddaughter/first companion) was there. It was incredible to meet her. There was a panel during the weekend with like 3 different doctors and 8 companions or something ridiculous like that (all classic era) and they were asked the question, “did you ever anticipate the show would have this massive of a legacy?” Imagine acting in a show with cardboard rocks and tinfoil aliens and then feel decades of fan love and devotion, not to mention how much content has continued to roll through all these 60 years later. Of course, all of them said something along the lines of, “no way, I knew what we were making was good and I knew we had an audience but I could have never guessed the power it would hold.” Carol Ann Ford was last and gave a similar answer except she added the addendum that she only ever heard one person fully grasp the potential the show had: William Hartnell. She quoted him as saying, "There's no reason why it should ever ever end because there's endless possibilities. And it's blumin good." Not going to lie, hearing her say that made me tear up. This show has always been crafted by and carried by loving hands.

The Avengers mentioned here was the show starring Dame (not yet) Diana Rigg who played Mrs. Gillyflower in the Matt Smith episode The Crimson Horror. As Mrs. Emma Peel in The Avengers she was the first female action hero for my generation.

There definitely are subtitles for this on iplayer! Maybe you hit a bug or something? I love that Who was first produced and directed by a woman and a gay poc. Shows how diversity has been the strength of the show from the beginning.

oh strange!!!! i hope it works better when i have to switch for normal episodes. and yes!!! i really wasn't expecting that and i loved it

emmereacts

same, i really wasn't expecting the emotions!! im glad you liked it too!

emmereacts

oh wow!!!! i don't know why i'm so surprised i guess i thought it would maybe be like an r2d2 situation where when they developed the tech/cgi they didn't need that. definitely makes me look at them differently now!

emmereacts

oh wow!!! how interesting and cool!

emmereacts

awww what an amazing story!!! thank you for sharing that experience with me, that is so special

emmereacts

i actually really like the idea that they can film it like that to give a nod to each new doctor, that's special!

The women who played Verity was the actress who played the séance lady in the Dr Who episode 'Hide' - The one with clara and they go to the pocket universe to rescue that time traveller and find the weird bony alien lol The actor who played the Doctor here was the old evil guy in Dinosaurs on a spaceship. But yeah before you watch this you really aren't sure what to expect but it's so well done and does get much more emotional than expected! Really liked this, very good. If you want to you should find the ending scene with Susan and the Dr on youtube, it's a very good scene! In fact, at your own leisure of course now you can watch Iplayer all the originals are on there! A fun little side quest for you :p lol
