Rogue & Nightcrawler are adoptive siblings. Mystique is Nightcrawler’s biological mother and she adopted Rogue. Mystique & Rogue started off as villains, Rogue then became a hero, Mystique became an anti-hero, while Nightcrawler has always been a hero.

This is kind of a deep cut but in the Rogue/Captain America scene, the license plate on his motorcycle says "AVN A10," which is a reference to Rogue's very first comic book appearance in Avengers Annual #10 from the 80s. It's a very fun intro - Mystique and teenage Rogue break into a government building. Her favorite way to use her powers back then was kissing, so she actually kisses Captain America to take him out! The comics version of Rogue was a runaway teen raised by lesbian terrorists (Mystique and Destiny). I don't think the movies would ever have the guts to portray her that way though.
