a start to a new season!!!

here is my timed reaction to doctor who season 10 episode 1 "the pilot"

this was a really fun and intense opener. i'm curious to see what we will get up to in this season!!

Fun fact, Bill was named after two very important people to the show. The first being William “Bill” Hartnell, the 1st actor to play the Doctor, who, I should also add, had a wife named Heather, and the second person being Billie Piper!

I love the professor/student companion dynamic. They hadn't really done one in the modern series prior to this and it's so fitting. The doctor is always teaching everyone around him and is very old- a student companion is tailor made! Bill is my second favorite companion after Donna and you don't need to see past this first episode to know why. She's funny and earnest and emotionally intelligent and curious. She feels very human and relatable in a way we haven't seen in the show in a long time. We're coming off five seasons of two impossible mystery girls (three if you include River) who have that "it girl" TV power. Bill's not impossible, she's grounded, which is a fresh change. Also, when they were with the Daleks, they were entering a part of the doctor's own timeline- a 4th doctor story. Kind of a fun easter egg. I adore the pictures of River and his granddaughter. It's so sweet. It was also sweet when he used the rug. And especially when he went back in time to take all the pictures of Bill's mom. The whole episode gets to me, honestly.

If Peter Capaldi had been my university professor I think I would have gotten much better grades! But yay Bill and Nardole are here! Now off to see if I can also set my doors to friends only lol

The young woman in the cap in the pictures on his desk is the Doctor's granddaughter Susan who was travelling with him when we first met the 1st Doctor. The Daleks we encounter are fighting the Movellans, in the middle of the 4th Doctor's adventure "Destiny of the Daleks" from 1979. Nardole is the 2nd android companion, the 5th Doctor had Kamelion in 1983, a silver shape shifting robot. But real life tech troubles put an end to him after a couple adventures.

12, Bill and Nardole are my favorite Tardis group. They really match each other's energy well. Also Capaldi really grew into his role this series, the longer his hair is the better he is.
