I imagine this is what life is like for anyone working around Trump, smile and pretend you're happy or else! lol I'm not entirely sure but I think this ship is meant to be one of the ones like we had in the beast below episode (Amy's first adventure with the star whale) as that was also a ship leaving a devastated Earth and the Doctor did say he had encountered others, so I assume it meant this. But yeah I really like this episode too, cool concept! I really like Bill, I know what you mean about her not seeing danger but I think with companions that can be a common theme, compassionate but not always fully aware of their surroundings, a bit like Rose perhaps.

They intentionally had a lot of cliffhanger endings this series which episodes leading into each other as a homage to the OG black and white era, with the elephant cliffhanger itself being a strong nod to the ending to the 1st Doctor story “The Edge of Destruction”
