Ace was my absolute fav classic Who companion, her story really sets the blueprint for a lot of the modern companions, a big break away from the damsel in distress archetype, she was a strong fierce independant woman and really helped redefine the role

Lee Gannon

Luckily two weeks ago today I had my picture taken with three of the Doctors, they were all in costume and we had it taken in front of the TARDIS at Nottingham Em-Con (they were Peter Davison / fifth Doctor, Sylvester McCoy / seventh Doctor and Paul McGann / eighth Doctor) plus I got Sophie Aldred / Ace's autograph. Sacha Dhawan was also there.

D Scott Howard

The support group: The elderly gentleman is Ian Chesterton (William Russell R.I.P. 2024 at 99), one of the very first companions. He actually spoke the first line of dialog in the history of Doctor Who! We also see Jo Grant Jones (3rd Doctor), Tegan Jovanka (4th & 5th), Melanie Bush (6th & 7th) and Ace (7th) who was the last companion of Classic Who (and my favorite). Ace called the Doctor "Professor" and got away with it. And we saw Doctors 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in the holograms. Very nostalgic for us old timers. Then the reveal of 14! (also Adric was a companion of 4/5 who died tragically) Yes, tears galore for this old man!

SURPRISE! Well done everyone for not spoiling this, every Who fan needs to experience that ending. So at the time it got all of us too! Before this finale they had already announced Ncuti as the next Doctor and we were all expecting him to pop up at the end....they got everyone with this, and I remember losing my shiiiiiit at this when the episode aired lmao. I grew up as a kid watching Ace and that Doctor (I had a huge crush on her too lol) so for me personally that was HUGE moment when she came back, as was the interaction between them, it was a big big thing for me and anyone who had grown up with the show, you're right though it'll be interesting in like 20 years and then Amy and Rory pop up, can you imagine! This is I think just one of the best episodes of Who, for so many reasons, it's legit an amazing episode in terms of the plot, the action, and the Master my goodness he's incredible...and what a dancer too...but just like on it's own that enough makes this a superb episode... Then you get all the returns, from so many different eras, Doctors and companions, it's just so, so good. Yeah I cried when the Doctor starts going that she wants more time as like you say it's the character and Jodie saying it and it hurts :( Yaz was really good this episode too. I know for some Jodie's first season is hit and miss but I don't think many can complain about the second season and the flux and these specials, personally I think Jodie was an amazing Doctor and she can be really proud of her run. Now...shall we talk about David... lol See I thought you knew about that because when you said where was he and you mentioned you knew more specials were coming I thought it was said kind of with a wink, but you actually didn't know!? Everything about this episode just fills your hearts doesn't it :)

WE MADE IT!!!!!!!!! i found your dw react videos on youtube back in january, started watching from eccleston to smith, once i got to capaldi i came to the patreon. once i got caught up to your most recent uploads, you had only just started jodie's run. as someone whos grown up with the show and seen all of classic who, rewatching this era at this pace with you made me love it more than i ever have, and this episode had me bawling from nearly start to finish this time around. also since you asked about adric, im gonna have to spoil a 40 year old story from the 80s lol, he was a companion from the era with tegan and the 5th doctor, he was an angsty arrogant teenage boy from an alien planet who was eventually killed by the cybermen. i figure you probably wont watch classic who since theres 26 big seasons of it, but you should know (like you dont already given who just came back) this episode pulled at the nostalgia heartstrings big time lol. some people hated this era and this episode for its fanservice, but i love this doctors era for how much fun i can tell theyre all having together, cant wait to see what you think of the show going forward!! :))

Not a big fan of Tennant showing up, undermines Jodie's regeneration for me.

It wouldn't have been quite so bad if he hadn't regenerated into Jodie's costume, maybe?

I think this is probably my favorite single episode of DW, even though it's the exit ep for my Doctor. 13 is the first Doctor I watched as their episodes dropped. And she's also the Doctor that got me through Covid. Those two reasons were probably enough for 13 to become my Doctor. Another Covid coping mechanism for me was binging classic DW, so by the time The Power of the Doctor aired, I knew all of those companions that we get to see here. It's so emotional seeing all of them -- Tegan and Ace getting some needed closure with their Doctors is so special. And to see Ian!! From the first ever episode of DW, the first ever set of companions!! Amazing. And this episode is so fun, too! How can you beat the Master ra-ra-Rasputin-ing with a Dalek and a Cyberman giving each other a what-the-hell-have-we-got-ourselves-into look? Yaz piloting the TARDIS! The Master's costume that has elements from at least half a dozen of the Doctors or more. (Off the top of my head-- Coat: 13, Scarf: 4, Vest: 7, Lapel Celery: 5, Tie: 10, Trousers: 1, Shirt: 12, Recorder: 2 -- am I right?) I love how mad the Master's plan is and all the time and place hopping. Him wanting to literally overwrite himself over the Doctor and then at the end: "Please, don't let me go back to being me" -- the Master is such a mess! And it's such a beautiful regeneration. 13 resists at first, and Yaz and the Doctor's eyes welling with tears always gets mine going, too. But I appreciate how for 13 in the end it's "tag, you're it," and she lets go. I expect that the TARDIS appreciates that she stepped outside to regenerate and so didn't blow things apart! And that vista where it happens -- it's some famous place that I can't remember the name of because American, but wow it is a gorgeous image.

I'm a fan of Tennant's Doctor but Jodie had such a hard time from beginning to end of her era. You had the bigots, you had all those on YouTube slagging of her era on this young ladies channel. So although not the case, but it felt like here's the Doctor everybody loves and yes not wearing Jodie's outfit pisses me off to this day because it was like just a complete erasure of her Doctor. I loved Jodie's Doctor and love all her work outside the show. Broadchurch, Attack the Block and Adult life skills three of my favorite roles of hers. So the end of my favorite era is here, Jodie will be missed.

Durdle Door is the location you’re thinking of 🙂 it’s on the Jurassic Coast in South West England.
