At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, Dorothy Hamill came in second in the figures and then won the short and long programs, taking the gold medal. She was a big deal in figure skating in the 1970s and 80s.

Bianca Lawson plays Kendra. They asked her to do a Jamaican accent and she did it perfectly but the team expected a bad stereotype of a Jamaican accent so she added some Irish to it to make it sound less like a real Jamaican and more like a fake accent. Lawson was great at doing accents so it was Whedon who dropped the ball in making her accent bad.

From what I read Sarah would have been able to do more advanced stuff for the skating scene as she figure skate (or did), but the people in charge were afraid she could have an accident.

Oh Eme... your reaction to the bugman (coo coo cachoo) was priceless. That was so funny! I also couldn't wait to see how you would react to Kendra declaring that she's also a vampire slayer. And you did NOT disappoint. Things are happening... fast! Season 2 FTW

Bianca has said something a bit different though - "Bianca Lawson commented on her accent during her stint on Buffy in an interview with SFX magazine: "I really hated that accent! I got the part, and I didn't originally have an accent. Then, literally the night before, they said, "What about a Jamaican accent?" So it's one of those things where, y'know, I just had to put it on tape, but I didn't have a chance to get comfortable with it. And the thing is, certain things - if you say it properly [in Jamaican patois], people don't really fully understand it, so they would change things. They'd say, "Well, say it like this" and it's like, "Would that be accurate in that accent though?" "It doesn't matter because no one's going to understand you!" So different people were giving their interpretations of it. I was like "But everyone's going to think that I'm doing it wrong!" So personally, I wasn't happy with the accent!""
