this was already such a different vibe! but i definitely enjoy ruby and the new doctor so far.

also just as a side note my files were for some reason corrupted while editing so theres a couple clips of the show that just dont have audio towards the end, and i wasnt able to do any added stuff in editing like the shoutouts at the end.

Davina McCall is an iconic British TV presenter, she used to host Big Brother UK and in S1 of Doctor Who, she did the voice over of the Big Brother host when the Doctor is trapped in the game station (and Rose is on the Weakest Link). So this is technically her 2nd DW appearance lol! She also has a show about finding people's families too, so Ruby was on that show just like the one IRL! <3

The youngest actor to play the Doctor was Matt Smith (Cast at age 26) followed by: Peter Davison (Fifth Doctor) – Cast at age 29 Ncuti Gatwa (Fifteenth Doctor) – Cast at age 30 David Tennant (Tenth Doctor) – Cast at age 34 Jodie Whittaker (Thirteenth Doctor) – Cast at age 35

A pram is what Americans would call a baby carriage or a stroller: the word “pram” comes from the longer, more formal word “perambulator”, but no one uses that anymore, and I doubt they probably have for the last 80+ years haha. In the US, you have baby carriages and strollers: in the UK, we have prams and “pushchairs”- which are similar to prams, except the baby sits up in a pushchair, instead of lying down in a pram. Not sure if there’s a difference in the US, between baby carriages and strollers, or if they’re just different names for the same thing… And so ends my TED Talk presentation, on the differences in names of UK and US infant transportation vehicles haha.

*My non-pram comment haha. I’m glad you liked this episode, and that you found the new style/Doctor refreshing: I think Ncuti does a great job in role, and is totally distinctive in his approach to the character. And yeah, the reaction you have to the song & dance routine can vary greatly, depending on your tolerance for that sort of thing: I’m a fan of musicals myself, and I thought it was just fine; neither great, nor terrible, just ok, for what it was…I know, what a ringing endorsement haha. I think a lot of people took against it immediately: they probably felt it was the start of the “Disneyfication” of Doctor Who, now that the Dark Lords of the House of Mouse were involved in the show haha. But I really enjoyed the episode: it was a fun little Xmas story, that did a good job of introducing us to Ruby, the new companion, and setting up questions & intrigue for the rest of the series. It also gave us a proper look at the new Doctor, and the changes that came with the latest regeneration of the character: it’s always fascinating to see how each new actor takes on the role, and how they put their own stamp on the Doctor. Also no, it rarely snows at Christmas in the UK: people always just think it snows a lot at Christmas over here, due to TV shows, films, novels, etc always depicting it as such. I believe this actually goes all the way back to Charles Dickens, who always depicted the Christmas season in the UK in that way: that’s because he grew up during a period known as “Little Ice Age”; where there was always heavy snowfall at Christmas when he was a child, and the image of a “White Christmas” stuck with him when he started writing. We’ve actually seen a glimpse of the “Little Ice Age” in Doctor Who before, during Peter Capaldi’s final series on the show: it was in the episode where Bill & the Doctor end up in Victorian London, during the last (I think) “Great Frost Fair”; when the Thames was frozen over, and a creature was chained below by some evil racist arsehole… …but you only asked if it snows over here at Christmas, and here’s me banging on about Charles Dickens and Frost Fairs, like a Temu version of Wikipedia haha. I’m very much looking forward to your reaction to the next episode: even though I’m sure you’ve probably already watched it by now, I won’t go into details about it here...frankly, I wouldn’t know where to start haha. But yeah, it’s really something…really, really something: if I had to describe it in one word, I’d probably go with “unsettling”…or maybe just “creepy as fuck”; I know that’s actually three words, but the extra 2 are both apt and necessary haha. Still, it’s gonna be one hell of an experience; both for you watching it, for the first time, and for us watching you watch it… …it’s a real trip and a half haha. All the best, and good luck for the next episode. 👍🙂 xx
