I totally get the crash out by Buffy and you reacting. My parents did not divorce, but my mom did start dating after my dad died and new boyfriends can be the worst. None were evil robots, although that might explain a few things…. Also, not the Joyce hate. Give her a chance, I think you may come around on her.

this was a hard episode for me when i watched it almost a decade ago. i’ve not seen my father in 20 years and my mother and step father were abusive and negligent so i knew, 100%, where this episode was going in the first couple of scenes. it’s a good episode, i’m not denying that, but this episode was the one that i finally made the realisation that there are going to be hard watches. glad you enjoyed it though :)

eme, that crashout was great LMAOOO i needed the laugh, but also that’s understandable honestly it’s like why aren’t you even listening to your daughter when she gives even the slightest warnings about what’s going on. ngl… by reflex i had said that one gta meme.. “ah shit, here we go again.” 😭😭 but overall this episode was kinda rough

The BLOOB

lol I knew you had that in you... was wondering what would finally get you to wanna throw down

I think this may be the angriest I’ve ever seen you in a video, and it was kind of fun haha. But I know what you mean, I also hate episodes of shows, where characters are gaslit like Buffy was, and we, the audience know she’s the one telling the truth: it’s so frustrating to see it happening, but being unable to do anything about it. John Ritter, the actor who played Ted, did a great job here, with his mix of creepy wholesomeness: I’m not sure if you’ve seen anything else he’s been in before, but I believe he’s known in the US for TV shows like ‘Three’s Company’ from the 70s/80s, and ‘8 Simple Rules…’ from the early 2000s- if you haven’t seen either of these, you may have heard of them. This is a fun “Monster of the Week” episode of the Buffy, which most modern television shows don’t really seem to do today: probably because they don’t have the time to focus whole episodes on stories that don’t further the plot of the season. I know you dislike Joyce, but I think she might grow on you: she has a bit of a thankless role here, being in the bracket of people who don’t know Buffy’s secret, which places her as a sort of secondary antagonist, since she usually punishes Buffy for slayer-related activity. Though in this episode, she handled the situation wrong, with how she introduced her new boyfriend to her teenage daughter, even if Ted hadn’t turned out to be a psychotic serial killer robot: but that could also be down to him drugging all the food he made, making everyone high, & a little more suggestive to bullshit. I love how you were so angry with Buffy’s situation, that it made you forget about Xander and Cordelia’s previous kiss: also, I must admit, Cordelia’s comment about having a fascist society, is the kind of line that hits a bit too close to home in the year 2026 haha. And you’re right about Giles: he is probably more of a parent to Buffy than her parents, and we see how much she means to him here, when he goes out patrolling instead of her, because he knows she needs time. I also love the scene with Giles and Jenny, when they’re attacked by the vampire, and she accidentally shoots him with the crossbow: it’s a really funny & sweet scene. I’m glad you still seem to be having fun with BTVS: I think it’s safe to say the show has you hooked, so I can’t wait for the rest of your reactions to this season, as well as the seasons that follow. 🙂 Hope your week is going well. xx

i can definitely understand that and yeah this sort of reminded me of the nightmare episode last season with the baseball coach. it can get very real sometimes!

emmereacts

thats definitely fair, in the heat of the moment i didnt think of how buffys mom couldve been under the influence of ted's food as well but i think it was just combined with her track record of not really being the best mom to buffy

It was kind of understated, and we’re never really sure how much drugging Ted was doing to Joyce, before he met Buffy: but as you say, Joyce does have a bad parenting track record so far, so it’s difficult to tell what is just her own failings, and what is Ted’s cooking/drugging haha. I think they kind of wrote Joyce a bit too harshly at times: it’s hard to have sympathy for her, when most of the time she’s very unsympathetic haha. One of the best things about this episode, is that it starts with a real world premise: a parent starting to date someone new, and how the teenager, & everyone else, navigates that complicated situation. Only here, we don’t get to see how that scenario would play out, as it turns out the new partner is a serial killer robot…which I believe is less common haha: Still, it’s fun to see Buffy having to deal with a real life, non-demonic scenario, and reacting like most teenagers probably would: it can be easy to forget that Buffy is still just a kid (probably because the school is populated by “kids” who look like they’re in their mid/late 20’s haha), because she has a lot of major responsibilities, which force her to act like an adult. But we get to see how non-Slayer teenage Buffy would react, to an everyday problem…again, until said problem turns out to be a psycho serial killer robot haha. Hope you’re having a fabulous week. All the best. xx

Yeah I hate it too. Make better choices, Joyce!!
