hi everyone!

here is my timed reaction to the suicide squad (2021).

i had no idea what to expect going into this movie but wow what a fun and interesting time!!! loved getting to know all these characters for the first time this way, and of course LOVED seeing peter capaldi in another role.

This movie wrapped filming in February 2020 and was filmed with the intention of Peacemaker being dead (a neck shot and a building falling on you will do that) but during lock down 2020 James Gunn was bored and decided to write a Peacemaker show for fun and then grew fonder of the idea and pitched it to HBO Max who greenlit it. So he shot that end credit scene as a setup. This movie and Peacemaker also led to James Gunn becoming the head of DC studios which I was very happy about given how comic booky this movie felt. Starro was the inspiration for the Invincible villain, he was the first villain the Justice League ever fought. I also really enjoyed the detail of Weasel reviving on a full moon given the speculation of him being a Werewolf. Really glad you enjoyed this movie, I regard it as one of my all time favourites of the comic book genre.

Great reaction, Emme! The one from 2016 is abysmal. This is basically a soft reboot, and it's one of two films - the other being Blue Beetle, which I would recommend - that are still canon to the current DCU. Everything else from the previous universe (2013-2022) is simply an insult to the source material and to cinema in general; and this is me being kind. This film does tie in to the Peacemaker tv series (I hope you'll decide to react to both seasons!!). The products canon to the current DCU are: The Suicide Squad -> Blue Beetle (although no references whatsoever to the other products in this one) -> Peacemaker Season 1 -> Creature Commandos -> Superman (2025) -> Peacemaker Season 2 (first episode includes retcon to Season 1 finale to align with Superman (2025)) -> Supergirl -> Lanterns -> Clayface (October 2026) -> Man of Tomorrow (Sequel to Superman (2025), 9 July 2027).

The lady that brained Amanda Waller with the golf club is actually her niece! In the comics Waller keeps her around to keep her darker impulses in check, although usually with words rather than putters, but whatever works. And the starfish's starfish being its weakness is a wild prediction Emme, watching them tear up the eyeball was bad enough, can you even imagine...
