Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3 Episode 2 | Full Length

Danny Roberts

The behaviour of Buffy's friends and Mom in this one genuinely infuriates me. They come across as unsympathetic, self obsessed assholes to me. It feels really jarring as though this episode was written by someone unfamiliar with the show and the characters they were writing. It's just weird.

Im gonna say... almost the opposite of what Danny said. I actually find it about as realistic as the show has gotten to this point. From their perspective, their best friend whom they love and support, left them high and dry without as much as an email... and they most definitely would have been understanding (at least willow) if she had said anything to them, but she chose to handle this on her own. They were hurt. Whether you think they handled it well or not is up for debate... but their feelings were valid, and had months to build up to this point. The last thing Willow felt was putting her own lift at risk, twice, to help to re-ensoul Angel. She did that for Buffy. And Buffy never even told her if it worked or not. I love the Buffy character, my favorite in the show, but I do think she handled this sitaution poorly and her loved ones had every right to feel some type of way.

The show got a better budget, this include better film quality and sets. They did not use the best kind of film for season 1 and 2, maybe the actors looking more tanned now might be due to the upgrade. The restaurant you noticed is a coffee place called "The Espresso Pump", it was shown from the outside earlier when Buffy is waiting for Willow.

Joyce runs the art gallery, she’s talked about it since season 1, Pat is just someone she met at her book club ,you’re watching the horrible HD version of Buffy , the color correction was wrong and nobody from the show worked on the project, even the cinematographer denounced it ,other than the DVD sets that I have I don’t know where you can see the correct version

Pat’s death may actually be the one death where pretty much everyone thought: “Oh, Pat’s dead…well, you can’t grieve forever, I suppose. Life moves on.” She wasn’t evil, she was just your regular kind of “fake nice”, at least to Buffy; but that’s kind of understandable, since she’d seen how much Joyce had worried about Buffy when she ran away, and probably blamed Buffy for putting her Mother through that. But she didn’t have the full story, obviously, as Joyce didn’t tell Pat the whole truth about why Buffy ran away; so Pat just saw her as being the one that caused Joyce to be upset, so took against her, in a passive aggressive kind of way, with the dodgy comments and the fake niceness. We don’t really know if Pat was a nice person or not; we only got to see her through Buffy’s eyes (and ears), and since we love Buffy, it’s easy to dislike Pat, cos of their interactions. Anyway, rip Pat: you’ve never really been missed, and it’s hard to see that changing anytime soon haha. They did a good job with this episode in reintroducing Buffy to the group; everyone got to say there piece to each other, and how they felt, and then zombies came crashing in at the perfect moment, allowing them to use a bit of their pent up aggression to fight them off and stop a demon. Just your average Sunnydale welcome home party…or any Sunnydale party, for that matter haha. But the real MVP of this episode, is definitely Giles; the reaction he has when Buffy shows up, always gets to me. The way he goes to the kitchen, so they can’t see how emotional he is to have her back; he didn’t want to put that on her, or make her feel guilty for leaving. He just needed a moment to compose himself, and enjoy the sound of them chatting in the other room, like old times, as if the last few months hadn’t happened. Not only that, but he also has some fantastic scenes in this episode; like when he’s in the car, and is imitating Joyce when she showed him the demon mask, and he says: “Do you like my mask? Isn’t it pretty? it raises the dead…Americans!” And then there’s the bit at the end, when he goes to see/threaten Principal Snyder; then we get to see a bit of the old/young “Ripper” Giles come out, when he shoves Snyder against the filing cabinet. Giles has always been one of my favourite characters in Buffy the Vampire Slayer; even when he’s not the main focus of a story, Anthony Head still finds a way to be a scene stealer, like he did in this episode. Cordelia was also great in this episode, even though she didn’t have many lines; I love when she tries to “stand up” for Buffy, during the argument, but does it in her own Cordy-esque way, by putting herself in Buffy’s shoes, and calling her & Angel freaks haha. But hey, at least she meant well, and was more understanding…just in her own special way haha. Season 3 has a really strong opening, and really just gets better and better; it’s easy to see why a lot of fans (me included) think it’s one of the best seasons of the show. Looking forward to getting to watch along with you. 👍😀 Fantastic video, as always, Emme. xx
