Great episode, and introduction to three new characters, and the return of an old one. Oh, and great reaction as always Emme!

You have "high hopes" for Scott Hope.

"Gotta have Faith, faith, faith" Eliza Dushku great addition, previously Arnie's daughter in True Lies

Faith's age is left ambiguous. A slayer is between 14 and 16 when called normally, I would put her at the 16 side. A lot of people think 18 or close to 18 but that doesn't make a ton of sense with the lore. I always thought she seems older because she is more wild and seems to have come from an unstable home, at least that's the vibe she gives. They kind of set her up as an older sister type but I still would see her as 16ish.

Faith is 17 years old same age as her actress Eliza Dushku

I forgot that this was the 3rd episode; for some reason, I thought next week’s episode was the 3rd one As episode 4 (which I thought was episode 3) is one of my favourites, I waited until today, to watch last week’s upload, so that I could watch them back-to-back…if that makes any sense. I wrote it, and even I’m confused about the whole thing haha. Perhaps bullet points will make it easier: • I thought episode 4 was episode 3. • So I didn’t watch episode 2 (last week) until today, as I wanted to watch them back-to- back. • But I was wrong: I’d forgotten that ‘Faith, Hope & Trick’ was the 3rd episode. But, even though I got the episode releases wrong, I still decided to have a back-to-back Buffy watch along night; plus I still love this episode, with the introduction of Faith & the big return at the very end. Faith is a great character, and it’s nice that she has her own personality, and is so different from Kendra- Buffy too; this was a fun way to introduce her, with Kakistos being a decent one-off bad guy, even though he doesn’t stick around very long. He’s got a good look; it would have been nice to see his character fleshed out a bit over the season- or at least over a few episodes, but I guess they didn’t have time for a big arc with him, and they really only needed him to help introduce Faith in the show. So alas, poor Kakistos (or “Kissing Toast” as Buffy called him), we hardly knew ye…or your weird cloven hands & feet haha. Again, just like I said in my comment on your previous Buffy video, this is another great episode where Giles has a few scene stealing moments; I love how he’s so bitter about never being invited to go on the Watcher’s retreat, & how he keeps going back to it, like when he was talking about how much he loves a “good kayak” haha. It’s such a great little recurring gag throughout the episode. Then there’s the incredible scene near the very end, when he gets Buffy to open up about Angel and the final moments before she killed him; I love the sudden realisation, that Giles knew that Buffy was holding something back that she needed to talk about, but instead of confronting her to try to force her to reveal it, he made up the story about it just being related to a spell, so she wouldn’t feel pressured. His simple “There is no spell” to Willow, & the small, sad smile/look he gives, as he walks away, is just perfect; it really emphasises how much Giles cares about Buffy, and how he knows her so well, he could tell she was keeping something painful bottled up, that no one else seemed to realise. Giles is a Watcher that doesn’t just watch, he sees too haha. And these Giles moments just make me miss Anthony Head even more. 😢 I’m going to have to give ‘Ted Lasso’ a try sometime; not only have I heard people say great things about it, it’s another show featuring Anthony Head, so that’s a win-win for me. 🙂 Yeah, the whole theme, where Buffy is against something, but everyone else acts like she’s the one being silly/acting weird, can get a bit irritating; I know we’re supposed to know that Buffy is right, and enjoy her proving it to everyone else, but it’s always been a storyline that has annoyed me- in Buffy and in other TV shows, movies, novels, etc. Hopefully it isn’t bugging you too much; I do my best to ignore it, & focus on other things, or I know it’ll piss me off haha. It’s always harder the first time you watch something; you don’t know how long they’re going to gaslight the character, before the truth comes out, which always seriously puts me on edge haha. The scene, where Buffy & Joyce meet Principal Snyder and mock him together, is a heartwarming moment between them; it also adds a bit more to Joyce’s character, as we get to see her being supportive of Buffy, instead of being forced to play the “bad guy parent” role she often got stuck with in previous seasons. It’s much better that she now knows the truth, about Buffy being the Slayer; the secret identity thing is hard to pull off, especially for a teenager living with a parent, as explaining how she doesn’t find out gets harder and harder, and less believable, unless you have a completely absent parent, who doesn’t give a fuck about you, and seems to disappear for multiple episodes haha. And that was Joyce in the first 2 seasons, which made her a kind of secondary antagonist, & rather unlikeable; she always seemed to be getting in the way of Buffy’s Slayer work, or giving her a hard time, which makes us resent her as a character. Guess we’ll have to see if you Joyce grows on you, as the season goes on; she didn’t make a great first impression on you in season 1 & 2 haha. I loved this reaction, and the one from last week; you are great at picking up things, & predicting plot elements. You also make some fantastic observations during these watch alongs; I love hearing your various takes on the characters, story, etc, and how you are able to pick up on things that I have never even thought about, despite having watched every single episode literally dozens of times haha. I’ve seen a fair number of people react to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and you are definitely one of the best; and I only say “one of the best” so your head doesn’t get too big from the compliments haha. Anyway, I can’t wait for next week’s Buffy video; it’s one of my favourite episodes of season 3- at least the early part of the season, and I think it’s one you are going to enjoy…at least I hope you enjoy it, unless I’m hyping it up too much haha. Hope you’re doing well, & having a fabulous week, Emme. 👍😀 All the best. xx
