Your comment on the bad space CGI got me thinking about how Star Trek re-did their space scenes for their original series (but with the same flavor). I wonder if they'll do that with Firefly? Btw, you should give Star Trek a chance.

"Jayne - I really hate him... but sometimes he's funny... but like in a way that's not funny. " Yep. I would say he is at best rough around the edges. That said, he's still part of the crew.

Joss Whedon created this show after reading a book about the Confederacy. It made him wonder what it'd be like to be on the losing side of a war.

I am a fan of Star Trek since my youth but there are a lot of flavours, ones that I like and ones I don't really like. Next to these flavours there are also a lot of generations in both the shows and the fans. OG series from the 60's has a lot of cross overs with the movies from the 80's. I was a big fan when I was young of TNG, especially since the 3rd season (first to are a bit too stiff imo). My favorites are the shows for later in the 90's Voyager and Deep Space 9. The series and movies from Enterprise on are not my cup of tea. What are you ideas / recommendation about Star Trek series / films to react to?

Ben

I would recommend 12 or so select episodes from the OG series, the first 4 films, 25-ish select episodes from TNG. That already feels like a huge ask so I won't even get into anything made after that

Florian Hoyer

but at least for me everything after it is where the best stuff is xD tng had some nice episodes but its so episodic, DS9 and Voyager were always my shows i liked the most

Florian Hoyer

jaeh but we cant compare the browncoats with the confederacy, as here there are more like the rebells from star wars while the alliance is the empire, the typical evil guys like nazis etc

Kelly Parks

Nor was such comparison ever suggested. Whedon had no such intent. All I said was that reading about history inspired the idea of what would it be like to be on the losing side of a war.

Ben

if I made a list of every star trek series: original, enterprise, TNG, discovery, strange new worlds, 70s animated, everything, DS9 and voyager would be firmly at the bottom. Bland, forgettable characters, terrible writing, unwatchable. there's nothing they did that TNG didn't do ten times better

being a companion isnt even looked down apon here, its a super high class but its just mal jelousy and even i love him hes kinda a dick here xD

emmereacts

that makes sense!!! especially as i just watched the next episode, it does seem that way
