This episode is up and published and ready to hear wherever you get podcasts.

The traditional 8th anniversary gift is pottery so to mark the September 2017 start of Ologies, we just published a lovely new Ceramology episode with Potted History's wonderful father-daughter ceramicists and historians Graham and Sarah Lord Taylor.

I love this one, and I hope it inspires you to gaze at some porcelain or earthenware or into a slick puddle to get your hands mucky.

Did you listen? What did you think?

All ears and mugs,

Legit just finished listening as soon as this was posted! What a fun listen. Happy 8th Anniversary Ologies! Can’t believe I’m been hanging out for half your existence. Time truly does fly when you’re having fun 🥳

Well damn I didn't expect to get emotional about clay but here we are.

I listened to it today! Such a wonderful episode. I did some ceramics in high school and college as an elective. This makes me want to get back into it!... Maybe someday 😂 I definitely want to get a really nice handmade mug now as a daily driver and ditch this stupid yeti LMAO

Congrats on 8 years! I loved the episode. Sarah’s points about how it’s history of the every day person and the ways you can connect to the humans behind the pottery were so lovely.

8 years is wild! I have only ever listened to ologies while driving, it is my ritual for my commute. However my headphones are charging as I type to be able to listen to this episode (for somewhat selfish reasons to see if my question is mentioned). I work for a city government that is celebrating its 100th birthday, and businesses in the old town district and employees were given stickers that say "here -blank- out of 100 years." I didn't qualify as mine would be just 3 months at that time lol, but it would be cool to have an ologies sticker of "listener of 6 out of 8 years" to stick on my laptop- though let's be real, we all backtrack and listen to old episodes midweek.

Happy 8 years! I had a great time listening to this. I am visiting my friend in Seattle in a couple of weeks and she has her own little pottery shed out in her yard! And yes I have asked her if we can (platonically) recreate the scene from ghost already. She said she will always by the platonic Patrick Swayze/Whoopi Goldberg to my Demi Moore, which is true friendship. I am definitely going to send her the link to this episode!

Happy 8 years—so so deserved! Only discovered Ologies this year, but likely for the best that I’m basically done with grad school cause this podcast makes me want to do alllllll the jobs!

Now I keep looking up bone china and horse hair raku cause it’s gorgeous! I also would love for a house guest to use bone china and hit them with a ya know there’s bones in that…

Congratulations on eight years of OLOGIES, Alie, and thanks for this episode. This episode has arrived just as I am about to take up making pots again as a hobby in retirement. I became an art historian (and a sometime potter) because I fell in love with medieval Japanese pottery. It was great to hear how much Graham admired Jomon "flame ware," which it truly amazing. He also mentioned Raku ware, which is another fave. BTW, the great majority of online sources say the pretty much the same thing about the origin of Raku, failing to mention the China connection in its history. An exception is https://owlcation.com/humanities/raku

Alie - did you know there's a ceramic museum in your backyard (Pomona)? I work at the American Museum of Ceramic Art and we'd love to have you come tour our exhibitions and look at some old and new pottery! www.amoca.org

These two were so personable! I found myself laughing throughout the whole interview, wonderful work Alie ❤️

Sooo I've been drinking coffee from a pair of these cute, charmingly rough mugs I got from a market in Morocco in February should I be concerned 👀

I LOVE OLOGIES SO MUCH

More than you are thinking right now. So so much!!

Been slowly re-entering the world of pottery, but lazy with lack of specific purpose. The bit in this podcast about Raku pottery got me all fired up 😜 to resume my collecting of wild clay and building a trad kiln. So… joined your patreon and am giving you my deep gratitude 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

We all want to see a picture of your mug!

Rach

Do Americans really not have blu-tak??? How do you put light posters and paper up on walls!!?!!

I went to the tea shop in Lincolnville, Maine (some time after 'The Mug' had it's unfortunate end). I bought a dragonfly mug (or damselfly, I suppose) that is on job number 6 or something. Congrats on 8 yrs!

I loved this one!
