After menny menny moons of rescheduling, I'm finally sitting down with a marine biologist tomorrow!

Some of you already submitted questions a few months back, but since I've interviewed a fish and a squid person in the interim -- and the patron group has grown -- I thought I'd send out another call for questions.

Oceans, diving, submersibles, ecology, aquatic passions, tide pools, what have you! Any fish questions you wish I'd asked?

Pop em in the comments, fam.

Have the met David Attenborough? Ok, serious now: - How long until we explore the oceans as much as mars/the moon? - Biggest concern with the oceans and climate change? - Favorite aquarium? 🐠 🐟 - What's at the bottom of the Mariana Trench?

Paula Herrera

Were the boys in my middle school right? How much of the ocean is actually whale sperm?

Christa Avampato

OMG - where do I even begin?? I'm psyched for this episode! This is the most important marine biology question to me: my 10-year-old niece is very interested in becoming a marine biologist. I want to do everything possible to promote this interest. What are some of the best resources for kids to learn about marine biology?

What's the deal with the Helicoprion? How did having a sawblade for a mouth evolve over the traditional mouth full of teeth?

Greg

As we are seeing the rise of algae blooms, coral-destroying starfish and more, what are the different scenarios scientists are projecting for the future of marine life based on the current warming trends of the ocean and human pollution?

Jonathan Gaudet

Why is so much of the ocean unexplored? Is there any area you would want to check out?

Zach Tarble

Is there any evidence as to what the whales’ ancestors looked like in their transitional form back to the water?

Christopher Gantner

What are the implications of climate change to colder ocean environments?

Caitlin Plate

Have you ever heard of ecospheres? If so, any helpful tips from a marine bio standpoint? Ei larger ecosystems and more diverse tend to be more stable and last longer?

Aaron Boyd

Is it possible for amusement park orcas to thrive after being released into the wild?

Thomas Pico

I have a silly question but it has been on my mind since vacation. We were up in Seabrook, WA at the end of summer. We noticed outlines being created by bubbles under the sand that looked like the flower on sand dollars. What type of sea urchin lives in a sand dollar and how do they create their shell. Our nieces and nephews were so intrigued by these.

Casey Handmer

What's with giant squid? What's the deal with seeding the ocean with iron to promote plankton growth? Why is the ocean's salinity so stable over geological time? What's with krill? What's with mantis shrimp?

Casey Handmer

Why do clams and starfish have eyes?

Casey Handmer

Ooooh, ooh, ooh, transparent fish, wtf?

Anna Marie

Do you feel like aquariums improved/became more humane since the Blackfish doc was released? What should we all be doing to help?

Craig Minami

How important are television programs like The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau and The Blue Planet in educating the public on the variety of life in our oceans? Also, did anything like those programs influence your career choice.

Billy Marino

Do you have a favorite technological development that was made for ocean exploration and has been adapted for more common uses, similar to the many creations of NASA that are now widely used in other areas besides space exploration?

The Project Project

Two questions: what are the caloric needs of cetaceans? Monterey Bay aquarium says a sea otter needs about 4Kcal/day to maintain bodyweight-- so what about orcas, and how many chubby seals do they kill a day?

The Project Project

Also-- explain jellyfish, man. How the h#ck do you expect me to get something that has eyes, BUT NO BRAIN, and, AND, spends part of its life as a plant?!

Jenny

Adding on to Christa's question...my 14-year-old aspires to be a marine biologist. Any tips or advice as she nears her college years?

John Worster

Alie, I was just curious about the schedule of the next Ologies podcast releases? What do you have to look forward to in the next few weeks?
