BROOMS. Did you ever think you would know this much about brooms? Neither did I. But when my friend Kathryn asked me a few months ago why Parisian street sweepers had "old witch brooms" I knew I needed to find an expert. And Spooktober? Perfect.

So I asked some broomsquires to recommend me an Ologist and Cate O'Connell Richardson was just perfect. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Let me know what surprised you with this one, or if you went and hung your broomcorn buddy up proper.

Let's discuss.

There is Shaker Village just 10–15 miles away from me in Harrodsburg, Kentucky! And they have broom making workshops and demonstrations consistently throughout the year!

You brighten my ever more intense job more often than you can know!

Walking around my college campus and no one even knows I’m learning so much about brooms! The joys of ologies!

PardonMyCuriosity

Why is the way Allie says “Peppa Pig” scratching an itch I didn’t know I had?

Shay-Nuh

I actually just bought a "witch broom" and I've seen SO many workshops to make them in my area.

Arella Zarina

Semi-related, I cut bangs while listening to this, had the most fabulous time, thank you Alie and co again for another amazing episode!

Anne LeVan

I was able to visit the one in Maine. Super interesting- bought some of their tea

Alie Ward

I had no idea, but I appreciate that you appreciate it

Alie Ward

Where did you get it? Nuts to know those are called "besoms"

Alie Ward

Do you think you'll take a class?

Hilda Z.

Maybe…I’ve seen the demo before and it seems like I would have to really concentrate and wouldn’t be able to talk (or eat or drink) while working 😂. That is usually how I decide on whether or not I’d like to participate in something new!

Fouad

I wonder what the witch in 100 year from will use?

Shay-Nuh

TBH, a witch market. There are a lot of small markets which focus on the metaphysical part of life. I got to make a "spell pouch" with various crystals and herbs that they stitched into the base. I love it.

Dana Wedel

Great cinnamon brooms at Trader Joe's right now.

DeeDeeNoodle

NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS AMAZING CHUMBAWAMBA SHIRT?!

Emily Krieger

This one is a real delight. I found myself at one point sweeping outside without noticing the synergy and once I did I cackled like the witch I am✨🧹

I'm down on the couch today with a cold, so I thought a whimsical episode on brooms would be the thing, but it went a lot of deeper interesting places, sweeping out the dark corners of history. You made me laugh a couple times and love the reimagined theme music at the end!

Arella Zarina

Stunning :D cutting bangs is always a good idea💯

This episode made me hella homesick and that was before you mentioned being in upstate NY and eating cider donuts and wearing a jacket. ~an upstate NY’er (Saratoga Springs and the very rural Galway where I swept my 220 year old floors with a hand made broom purchased from a museum outside of Rochester NY) currently residing in the very warm, very not cider donut and jacket wearing Mississippi.

Can't wait to listen to this one
