Fun fact: selachimorphology is the study of shaaaaaarks. I've been trying to get an interview with Dr. Chris Lowe since May and as it happens, we may finally meet up tomorrow. Hopefully this'll be in time to turn an episode around for Tuesday, co-inciding with SHARK WEEK. (I may have to skip Comic-Com but I mean, Shark Week, y'all...)

I'll ask as many questions as time allows and thank you so much to everyone submitting!

Or is it just too hard to create a stable environment with enough room and proper oxygen levels? I worry about them becoming extinct due to humans (pollution & poaching) and us not being able to save the species in captivity if needed.

I live in Queensland, Australia where we have a huge bull shark population in our all our rivers - fresh water and salt water - and apparently happily go between the two. How do they do that?? Can other sharks do that? Also no one swims in the rivers here because of all the bull sharks and media coverage of the sharks. Are they really that dangerous? Do I really need to worry about my dog getting eaten while we're picnicking on the shore of the river?

Even though technology seems to advance rapidly, information about Shark biology and breeding does not seem to have advanced very far. What are the obstacles that prevent scientists from learning more about shark breeding behavior and cell biology among other things?

I heard on QI, that a lot of the reason people are scared of sharks is due to ominous music played in documentaries (and major motion pictures) when they are on TV. I am personally tackling this by talking as the shark in a silly voice but this has a limited audience. Does Dr Lowe know 1) If this is true, and 2) are marine biologists trying to do anything to guide media outlets to use different music?

When I lived at the beach in North Carolina,the rules were don't swim at dusk and after, don't wear anything shiny and don't swim with any active cuts. Is there anything you could wear or a scent to have that would deter a shark?
