Oooooh this one. Oh man! Get a deeper look at monarchies of the ancient world and also tombs and mummies and matriarchies and coffins and curses. Dr. Kara Cooney is brilliant and I've been a fan of hers for over a decade. I was so excited to interview her that I reeeeaaally screwed it up at first but salvaged the opportunity and it turned out great. Get into it and become her second biggest fan.

Thank you Patrons for making this podcast possible. Also if anyone asks what kind of whiskey I bought her, I'm telling 'em that info is for PATRONS ONLY, since you paid for it. It was Nikka Coffey Grain because I knew she liked Japan and sake and I'd heard in another interview that she developed her taste for whiskey on digs. I felt so so so bad about taking up her time twice that I felt an apology gift was in order, so thank you Patrons. Podcasts are more expensive to make than you'd think, as you never know when a sound card might fail or an edit will take twice as long because there are a ton of "ummms" or you'll screw up and forget your Zoom and buy this $80 bottle of whiskey to say "Dude I am so sorry."

Thank you again so much; I'm not sure if I've mentioned it, but I love making this podcast.

Egyptology (ANCIENT EGYPT) with Kara Cooney

After a decade of fandom, Alie finally meets famed Egyptologist Dr. Kara Cooney -- and forgets her equipment. They meet again for a spirited history lesson on ancient Egypt: the pyramids, the monarchs, the dynasties, the cats, the corpses, the curses.

Wow, this was great! She's a fountain of knowledge and very passionate about the topic. I liked her takes on other subjects that popped up as well, although I'd have to do some research on the whole men aren't emotional thing. I think that's more of a nature vs nurture vs culture kind of thing. Anyway, I really enjoyed this, and will look her up on fb.

So I saw this episode drop on Tuesday morning and made a noise not appropriate for public transit at six in the ay em. THEN I listened to it on my commute home and made ANOTHER noise inappropriate for public transit when her upcoming book was mentioned. I listened to the Hatshepsut one on audio while managing a complicated and difficult change at work (as a woman in STEM with almost all men in both directions of my reporting chain) while also having to do normal managey and day to day stuff and I swear it got me through it. And now I'm going to go write HER fan mail in addition to leaving this comment.

Hi Alie - I’m all over the Seven Ancient Wonders, mainly because of this awesome fun book, Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Riley!!
