That's right. Worms. Round worms. From your backyard to a research station in the snow, tomorrow I chat with a real worm nerd who has, yes, been stationed on Antarctica in her quest to learn about worms. This will be an episode you never knew you needed.

Worm questions: LEAVE 'EM BELOW.

Comments

RJ Doidge

So…why are they such good fish bait? Is it the wiggling? Is it in the flavor? I have to know.

EdNoGG

Here we go 🙄🙄

samm

if you cut a worm in pieces, will each of those pieces become new worms?

Evan Davis

Why do worms end up dead on the sidewalk after it rains?

samm

what is the largest worm species

Average_pi

Are they good nutritionally so animals eat them, Also if I cut one in half will it die and can they breath underwater?

Claire Netto

I’ve been hearing a lot of hubbub about different invasive worms, such as earth worms and jumping worms — I’d be curious to hear more about this backstory from a worm expert; & especially how to differentiate the invasive worms from the good worms in my garden?

EdNoGG

Ummmm hook worms! Why do do they what to be inside us!? 😰

Zed Shirogane

How come marine worms get crazy adaptations that make them look like wild little aliens while terrestrial worms are normal/boring?

samm

what is the wiggliest worm species?

Claire Netto

I see soooo many worms underwater in the streams I work in! also curious about how they breathe

Julia Hutton

Are there different species of earth worms in different types of soil? I can't believe I've never wondered about this until just now!

Dave Cannon

Can I use hook worms to cure my allergies ?

Claire Netto

oops those may not be nematoda worms though 🫣

Zed Shirogane

What is the gnarliest parasitic worm you’ve ever seen?

30.004861 cm of fun!

Would love to know about the research surrounding worm memory - I recall that if you teach a worm a maze and then grind them up and feed them to another worm that worm will know how to solve the maze

JENN 'Benthopelagic squirrel' ALVAREZ

I love earthworms! I was going to suggest an episode! Is it true that you can use sticks to vibrate the ground and make them wiggle out? And this is about nematodes... I..uh..they eat earthworms and vice versa I think. Yeah? Idk 🤷🏼‍♀️ Also/worms //wooooorms!

Erin Unson

How did they evolve? Any relation at all to other long squiggly animals like snakes or eels?

Alia Myers

Why do they come out in the rain? Why are they always on the goddamn sidewalk?

Curious Cat

Random reply but there's a great episode of This Podcast Will Kill You about hookworms, from the Drs' Erin from the Ologies Epidemiology episode 😁

Amelia Frank

What are blood worms and why do our pet aquatic frogs like them so much?

Sunni Mullenix

Is it true that hammerhead worms are effectively IMMORTAL?

Alex

What’s the deepest underground a worm has been found? Also, maybe this sounds strange, but do land worms have community? Like are they down there building nests or networks of tunnels together, or do they just occasionally bump into each other, say a quick hi, and move on?

Alia Myers

Are there worms in the ocean or lakes? Do we just use them for fishing bc its easy or are they somehow part of the food chain?

Nathalie Jones

How did they evolve and are they the ideal form (kind of like crabs)?

Mallory Nettleton

Why do small children have the urge to show you worms they find by shoving them DIRECTLY in your face? As a grade 2 teacher I find this both endearing and slightly gross

Hal MacLean

There’s stories of hook worms curing autoimmune diseases. Is there any truth to that?

Ellen Durnal

When it rains and worms crawl onto the sidewalk, should I put them back into the grass or plants or is it better to just leave them alone?

Curious Cat

Do worms have a nervous system? Is it species reliant?? They don't seem to have eyes, so are they like jellyfish and able to detect light?

jennyxxdreadful

how can I save them from becoming worm jerky on the sidewalk :(

Ellen Durnal

How in the heck do they reproduce?

Ken Chambers

Is it true that earthworms aren't native to the Americas and were brought in the Europeans?

Ellen Durnal

Should I be worried about any kind of worms getting inside my body? Like tapeworms? Are those even really worms?

Curious Cat

Fun fact my big sister convinced me to eat worms when I was three and has never let me forget it. I feel guilty about it to this day!

BadWolf1701

First time question asker, recent rapid consumer of this amazing content. Are worms gendered? I believe some types basically clone themselves. At what point did they become gendered (if at all), and how does that process occur?

Kailee Godinez

Should we help them if they are on sidewalks/paths? If so, how can we??

Jessica Merriman

Why are worms so good at decomposing organic material? Are they actually better at it than other underground-dwelling creatures (hence vermiculture) or are they just easier to manage?

Emily Staw-fur

I remember as a child being told that if a worm gets cut in half it can still live. Is this true? If yes, then how?

Hal MacLean

How specific of a bird host do “swimmers itch” schistosomes need? Do any waterfowl work? What releases schistosomes from snails? Is it only temperature related?

Alex

Yikes I also just looked up ‘enormous worm Australia’ to remind myself of a news story from a few months ago, and it came up with images of the Giant Gippsland earthworm. Now I’m scarred and very sorry to everyone else who goes and searches this 😬

Christopher Blubaugh

With your work in Antarctica 🇦🇶, are there worms that can survive the dry climate and extreme salinity of areas like the Dry Valleys?

Ellen Durnal

Can they see? Or hear? What senses do they experience the world with?!

Jessica Rosko

Came here to ask this exact question!! I feel so bad for them

Chris McQuire

My lawn was recently ravaged by ‘leatherjackets’ (crane fly larvae I think) and the only solution I could find online was to buy nematode eggs and water them into the soil as they they infect and kill the leatherjackets- is this a real thing or am I spending a lot of money on packets of useless dust 😄

Emily Staw-fur

The saying "early bird gets the worm" suggests that being early is better. But from the worms perspective, being late is actually the ideal scenario because you don't get eaten. Thoughts? 😜

Liz Schumacher

Can you discuss migration in the body for Strongyloides?

Jessica Rosko

How fast can they wiggle through dirt?? FTQA

jennyxxdreadful

JUMPING worms??! They don't got no legs! 😂

Sarah king

Oh my gosh I’m so excited. I have such a soft spot in my heart for worms, I wanna know everything eyes? Ears? Vibrations? Pain?? I agree with Jennifer it’s also a race to get as many worms as I can back into the grass but if the grass dries out will they die there too? Are they just doomed? Are they kinda like sponges?? Should I just collect them all and keep them in a moist home in my room? Are they always living below us in the ground?? Do they come from eggs? Please give me their backstory, I’m way too emotionally attached

Peter Poworoznek

Not a roundworm, but schistosomes (flatworms) have a way of preventing the host’s immune system from attacking them. Could something be learned from them to prevent rejection in organ transplants?

Joe Hummingbird

I can’t walk by a worm on the sidewalk without picking it up and putting it back in the grass. Does that help them in any way? Or am I messing up a journey they need to make on their own?

Emily Staw-fur

Thoughts on the movie franchise "Tremors"?

Jess Loeffler

Nematodes are fascinating, learning about them in a plant pathology setting made me really appreciate how specialized they can be. When do we think nematodes began to specialize, and what did they start off doing? Do we see much evidence of them in the fossil records?

Amber

When saving a worm off the sidewalk where the best place to put them?

Dev

Can you speak about the impact of invasive species on native populations in Antarctica?

Dantooine

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOREVER!!! Do worms feel pain? Why do they come to the surface when it rains, only to lay submerged in puddles of water? Why is their poop so healthy for soil (worm castings)?

Dantooine

Was Heidi Klum's worm halloween costume anatomically copacetic?

Dantooine

The worm from the Labyrinth...cute or nah?

Cate Muenker

Have you seen one coming out of someone's nose? Are they like tardigrades and can withstand being frozen, or dried? How do the male and female find eachother for fertilization to take place?

Dantooine

How come when they are severed they still wiggle around and live?

mary de voe

How do I get rid of the bad wigglers when I (admittedly: impulsively) bought a plant from home depot and now those suckers are in my garden. :( How do I restore balance?

Carolyn Armitage

All of this, plus what can we do about the invasive ones here in North America?

mary de voe

How long do they live? Like, how long from when they are spaghetti tiny inch longs to the big fat root assisting wonders?

Nina Eve Z.

Speaking of them coming to the surface when it rains, how can I save their little lives so they don’t get crushed by uncaring humans walking down the side walk?? If I put them back in the grass will they just drown? This has been a concern since high school.

Kleb

Oh, if you guys haven't, you NEED to see the little dance that the seaguls do to simulate the vibration of rain in the soil and get the worms to emerge to certain death!

Kleb

Is it true that when you cut one in half the two parts regenerate to become a new individual?

Jackie Driscoll

Do they have eyes???? And why does my dog want to eat the dried up ones on the side walk?

Isa Brillard

We love wormies! Are jumping worms (and other “invasive” worms) a big cause for concern ecologically? When you cut a worm in half, does it become two worms or is that a convenient myth? Can worms see? If not, how do they know where they’re going? I cannot wait for this episode, thanks y’all!

Gabija

I would like to appologise to earthworms I have mistreated as a child. To prove that I have changed I keep all the spiders that decide to live with me and try to find a humane way to move out the ants.

Kleb

How soon is it too soon to add them to composters? Are the giant worms (called "minhocoçu"in Brazil - Rhinodrilus alatus) better options than the californians? They may reach 1.2m (4ft)! Any plans to use it as protein source (ew) video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE6xzVBx6xQ images: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=AB5stBi42YiDDV1jQqR5rdigk6BwBZixPg:1688140200157&q=rhinodrilus+alatus&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiaiNinrOv_AhWZbcAKHRKxDVwQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=1536&bih=737&dpr=1 In Brazil there was also this "blind snake" that some people said it was actually a worm. Just debunked it though... https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/73702-Blanus-cinereus

Adam Weaver

Thoughts on beneficial nematodes for plants as a means of pest control? I see them advertised as something you can add to your houseplants to eliminate fungas gnat larvae and other pests. Should I be concerned about them escaping and becoming invasive?

Jasmine Liu

Is it recommended to help them cross the road or a driveway and put them in the "safe" grass or am I messing with the circle of life?

Nathan-Andrew

Since earthworms are an invasive species in North America (a fact which blew my unsuspecting noggin), have they substantially changed the character of the landscape?

Verena Runstadler

What constitutes a worm? I recently had to deal with maggots, and I was at first calling them worms because they are round and wriggly… but are they?

Renee Quekel

Yes i was wondering this too!

Hands.to.yourself

First time question asker! Can you add worms from outside to your houseplants?

Katie Hultman

In a college bio class I learned that something like 1/3 of humans have pinworms. Can they hurt us? Why do some countries regularly deworm people but the US never does? Are the nematodes in our garden the same ones that like to live inside us? I'm so itchy now.

Bel Jensen-Hill

Is it true that tilling your garden is bad for the worms? Also, if I was a worm and got turned into a human, would my worm girlfriend still love me?

Mallory Masoni

First time question asker! How big can worms really get? And can I ride one like Timothy Chalamet in Dune (spoilers sorry)??

Nathan Marion

Why do we use worms as fish bait? How is that when it rains, worms end up the sidewalks/roads? Are worms nutritious? What do worms eat and how do they eat?

Zoe

Me too! I think I've also heard that only one end regenerates, would love to have this cleared up

Jen

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to start worm composting? Is it really as easy as it seems it is?

Mary of the Grapefruit

Are hookworms still something to worry about? Can I still walk around barefoot? Sometimes earthworms in my garden are a dark blue color, do I need to do anything to my soil?

Curtis St.Pierre

I’ve know worms will crawl out of the ground if they “hear” a mole , what else can they detect underground? First time question here

Lazer Introlegator

Okay what is the deal with when worms are cut into pieces, and each piece ends up being a totally new worm? I am so confused. How do they have all the organs to live? Does a worm just have a bunch of the same organs on repeat in each segment? If yes, why the heck? If no, what the heck?

Ayshia Yaeger

I know Earthworms are invasive to the U.S. and have been changing soil and forest ecology since they arrived, so is there anything I can do to keep their numbers low in my yard? "Asia" they/them!

JENN 'Benthopelagic squirrel' ALVAREZ

Iirc, the soil gets too saturated for them to absorb oxygen through their skin so they crawl onto the sidewalk but idk why they don't crawl back.

JENN 'Benthopelagic squirrel' ALVAREZ

I too save worms from side walks. Then I feel bad that I took a bird's snack then I get all sad for both. It's a never ending cycle

Catharine Eastman

I studied the roundworm C. elegans in grad school, but somehow never knew: How did they end up being a model organism?

William Gibson

As a kid, I we t fishing using worms as bait. Do worms feel pain?😱

Christopher Gabbert

Is “worm” a word like “tree” or “fish” that has no real taxonomic value?

R P Bergmann

Can worms freeze and be awakened like a cryogenic zombie?

Jacintha Jaa

Are worms one genus? Are ocean worms in the same family as terrestrial worms? Do all worms have a common ancestor or have different species evolved separately? What species of worms is best for composting in my back yard? Thank you 😊

Jenna Congdon

Do worm scientists feel proud of getting ringworm (or other worm diseases) like fly scientists feel proud of getting bot flies? See: dipterology episode!

Nick Mikash

What more do we know about the worms causing Beech Leaf disease?

JBerg

Is dirt mostly worm poop??

Elysha Smith

Isn’t there this one worm who uses “penis fencing” to reproduce?

curly fry

There are worms in Antarctica?? How do they survive?

Mari Strombom Johnson

Did Gary Larson hit on any truths about worms in his book "There's a Hair in My Dirt! A Worm's Story"? (By the way, I just realized that you're like the podcast version of Gary Larson for me because you both love science and you both make me laugh (but the key difference is that I also learn a lot from you every freaking time I listen to Ologies!)

Michael Heiker

Any thoughts about the Sandworms in Dune and real Sandworms on Earth ? May they be cousins ? 😉

Jessie Dragon

Do they have any tips that they recommend for people who do worm composting?

Scott Hanley

Dig. How cold is cold in Antarctica and did they see effects of climate change there?

Megan Younce

I would like to know if she has a favorite worm in a movie or TV show. (Mine personally is a tie between the Graboids in Tremors, and the lil cutie in the Labyrinth)

Kyle hunter

Know anything thing about pesticides and them causing worms to have seizures? 🥺

Andrea Devlin

What actually happens when you accidentally cut them in half?? I always feel terrible if I cut one while digging!

Heathcliff the Cat

Not necessarily worm related, but Antarctic Research Station related. I read somewhere on the interwebz once that scientists at the US Antarctic Research base…s (are there multiple?? Or do you all study different Antarctic stuff in the same station??) will, on an annual basis, watch John Carpenter’s The Thing. Is this flim flam or are you all really just so awesome. I mean… being a scientist stationed at the most inhospitable climate on the planet is awesome enough in its own right, but The Thing is a classic and I really can’t think of anything more badass than watching a movie about Antarctic scientists unearthing a shapeshifting alien that just decimates everyone while you yourself are an Antarctic scientist.

Alexandre Catulle

I want to know everything about stomac worms. And is the trick to drink a lot of milk true?

Lexi Gutshall

FTQA Is there a biological reason I'm so grossed out by worms? 😅

Val McKelvey

Do they poop out dirt? How happy do they make my garden?

Lexi Gutshall

I should clarify. I've heard the biological (idek if that's the right word. Apologies if it isn't) reason many humans are afraid of spiders and snakes is because we used to not be able to tell which ones were poisonous. After learning that, I'm not as scared of snakes or spiders. So is there a reason worms are icky to so many people? Or can you make one up so I'm no longer as adverse to them? Thanks!

Lainie McKeating

Are friendly, happy earthworm populations (and people and pets for that matter) that happen to find themselves in warm, humid places in several US states at risk due to the hammerhead flat worms ( super ugly!) that seem to be gaining ground? Is this an actual earthworm crisis?

Julia Chirka

Does the “necklace/neck warmer” ring looking thing on an earthworm have a function or purpose or is it purely fashion?

Nancy Stelling

How potent is worm castings’tea’ as a garden fertilizer? I saw it bro g used in a nursery in CostaRica. Fascinating!

Jess Donald

Ascaris... how aggressively should I be washing my vegetables?

Kris

How does something so soft move through hard dirt?

Feye

How do I help the worms in my garden?

Marianne Thomas

How are they handling climate change? Should we be worrying more about parasitic ones, or less?

Scarlet P

do worms feel pain?

Trevor Hagedorn

Are the worms in Antarctica alive!? If so, how do they survive in those harsh conditions?

Madeline DLC

I saw a Ted-Ed video about Worm Grunting. Have you ever been to a worm grunting or worm charming event?

You Can Be The Judge

Hot Take: The first Mars colonizers should be worms. Change my mind?

You Can Be The Judge

If you could only choose one... land worms of sea worms? Which would you choose?

You Can Be The Judge

Do you know about Chaetopterus pugaporcinus, more commonly referred to as "The Flying Buttocks?"

J

I LOVE worms. Why did my dad have to hunt for dew worms at night? He said that they had flashlights and if the light was on the worm for a few seconds, the worm would hide in the ground extremely quickly.

Corey

THERE ARE WORMS IN ANTARCTICA?

You Can Be The Judge

Could vesuvius worms still live at the bottom of the ocean even if the sun stopped giving free light to the earth?

You Can Be The Judge

Is the Mongolian Death Worm a real animal, or is it like Bigfoot, or The Jersey Devil... Just a myth?

Matt Hirschl

Would worms be able to survive on another planet? If so, which one?

You Can Be The Judge

Ok Last one, and then I promise I'll stop. Acacias, vetches and clover are all in a similar plant family that have a specialized trapping contraption on their roots specialized to capture microscopic cellular organisms called nematodes. I've always thought that was so cool. Can you explain how that works exactly and maybe how that seems to have evolved...if you know... that may be a question more for a plant expert... Go Science!

Pseudonym Jones IV

Gaaah! I've been afraid of nematodes since before you were born. If I go outside barefoot, what are the odds I will have these things burrowing into my soles?

Pseudonym Jones IV

Also, other than Smilla's Sense of Snow, are there any fictional media that feature mutated nematodes?

Keely Chavez

Tell us about "beneficial nematodes" marketed for garden use "just add water".

Stephanie

How do worms reproduce? Do they have a little worm penis, worm vulva? Are all worms the same in this regard?

Valerie Bertha

How many native worms do we have in the US? Hawaii too.

Stephanie

FTQA I work in urban wetlands and we lay a lot of jute matting as weed suppression/erosion suppression and I'm wondering... Are we introducing harmful nemotodes to this soil by bringing in plant matter from mass production in other lands?? Or an easier question ❓ What's the deal with "harmful nemotodes"? what are they up to and what makes them such an antagonist?

Olivia Anderson

Thoughts on C.elegans!!!! What is your favorite phenotypic mutation? I love the dumpy phenotype. Why do they make such excellent animal model systems for genetics? Is it because of a small genome and easy-to-ID phenotypes?

Lisa St

I've been on a barefoot shoe journey these past few years, thankfully I live in the north... but I asked this of southern US barefoot afficionados recently. Is it a thing? Do people in the south really get hookworm by being barefoot outside????

Lisa St

No question, but just so you know, we've been chatting about knitting 'socks' for C. elegans in Ravelry...

Omennik

I came here to ask a similar question

Terena

I once had a worm farm that I loved. the worms were fascinating. I eventually turned them loose in my yard and over the years they multiplied and thrived. But now I wonder… did I introduce an invasive worm species? I bought the worms at a garden store. Where did they come from?

Colby Evans

Where are the eaty parts?

Arica Starlinger

Why can’t worms digest/ help decompose potatoes? They’re both dirt-dwellers!

Stacey Sevelowitz

Worm rescue: is it a thing? Should my 7 year old be picking them up off the sidewalk and placing them ever so gently back into the lawn or garden after it rains?

Josie Chase

What do you know about the GIPPSLAND GIANT WORM! Apparently if you put your ear to the ground you can hear it

Josie Chase

What even are worm castings ?

Jean Pompeo

Question from my partner : Why have certain organisms (like roundworms) evolved to be evil (aka parasites)? Do roundworms serve any beneficial function to any of their hosts? (Are there any non-evil roundworms?) Is there any preventative measures one can take to not get roundworms even while traveling in countries where they are more common?

Alyssa Ranker

Of the known species (cuz I know there's a lot we haven't discovered yet), what's the ratio of free living to parasitic nematodes? Also do they parasitic plants? Also also are there marine nematodes??

Dev

Are their any community science projects Antarctic visitors can get involved with ?

Dev

What’s your favourite thing about being based in Antarctica?

Karlie V

What is going on in their insides? Are they a long stomach? So they have a brain? Other organs? Do they all just smoosh around together?

Connor they them

I did some research on roundworms before coming up with questions. One of the most common pieces of information that I saw was that roundworms are most common in poor, undeveloped, tropical countries due to lack of sanitation. That makes sense to me, but I would love to hear about the steps that are being taken to address this problem. A lot of the tips to avoid them came from a very privileged thought process. They basically said use better sanitation, but that's not always realistic for individuals even in first world countries let alone poorer ones. What is science doing to help these countries get control over the infestation as well as what organizations are there and what are the steps they are taking? Is there an equivalent to the bill and melinda gates foundation working on roundworms? I saw two other bits of info that I would love to hear you expand upon. They were that children sometimes need surgery to remove them and they can come out of the mouth and nose? What does the surgery entail? Is there a special instrument to remove worms or are they going in with their hands? Also do they try to remove all of them or just the main clump and leave the rest for the medication to address? And how do they come out of your nose and mouth? What crazy physics allow them to get from the intestines to the head? My understanding is they are fairly large so gravity is not in their favor? Can they only do it if the host is lying down or can they somehow defy gravity and climb up? Thank you.

The Aerial Mapper

How much are invasive worm species affecting the health of the soil and plants? Or other native worm species?

Hannah Michel

I have the same question! and is there something we can do in our backyards to encourage native soil ecosystems and helpful invertebrates? like by planting things they like, or other ways of managing backyard soil?

Jay Miraldi

What are Hair Worms and why are so many Praying Mantises infected with them?? Also, why does submerging the mantis’s bum in water make the worms evacuate? (I know this is not about Nematodes but I thought they might know 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Richard Ellis

Are worms really good fishing bait or is it a myth?

Kyla C (KAI-luh, rhymes with Myra or Lyla)

Why should we love nematodes? I fear I have a prejudice against them because heartworms freak me out, but I'm sure they play essential roles in the ecosystem or have some fun symbiotic relationships too!

Sydney Atkin

I heard as a kid that if you cut a worm in half, it’ll just become two separate worms and keep on trucking. Is this even remotely true? I believed it blindly for so many years but it sure sounds like flimflam

Gemma

Where are worms organs? Do they have lungs, a bladder, a digestive system????

Gemma

How can u smell worms after it rains

Brian Linton

Why is it that vibrations cause earthworms to come to the surface? What in nature would make them have this reaction?

Cat A

At summer camp, why was there always that one camp counselor that would show off by eating a worm? Was he eating worm poop?

David Gallagher

Ok Allie, the last rainstorm we had here in SoCal (May) resulted in hundreds of not thousands of worms escaping out north east Bakersfield lawns covering the sidewalks and gutters in a glistening grunion run of WORMS. My question is simple… WTF [What the Fork ;)].

David Gallagher

Also I remember learning in elementary school that some earthworms can be as big as medium sized snakes - like multiple feet long - so how big are the biggest worms?

Leslie Hart-Davidson

During the pandemic, I developed wicked allergies to my yard from overexposure. My awesome allergist gave me sublingual immunotherapy drops since I wasn't a candidate for weekly shots. During my research, I found fascinating deets about using worms to manage allergies! Is this a thing???? Also, you're amazing and a gift to the world. Theeeenks.

Annabelle

What is special about their role in the ecosystem?

Kayla Tozier

How is it possible that worms can be cut in half and STILL keep crawling?! Do they have a brain on either side and do they grow back?

Potato Puffer

What’s up with parasitic worms you can contract through bare skin contact (walking barefoot)

Dane Camacho

Do round worms and earth worms share common ancestors? Do round worms also have many hearts??? Do they have hearts at all?

Darlene Skapura

Invasive worms like asian jumping worms and hammerhead, how do i confirm before killing it?

Theresa Egan

When puppies get “worms” what worms are they and where do they come from?

Macy Kissel

First time question asker!! Have you seen the movie ‘How To Eat Fried Worms’? What kind of protein/substance does eating worms provide?

Gemma

Worms in rain on sidewalks. What do?

Grace Elling

Why do worms smell the way they do? I often associate it with the rain, but I also know that rain has a smell (petrichor). Is there a name for the smell of worms?

Isabelle Newman

So what goes on inside a worm? What organs do they have, do they have brains, can they be cut in half and live, do they have blood, any vestigial eye structures or light sensing patches???

Isabelle Newman

Oddly specific: are the worms that caused worm wood on old time ships from the water or from the trees that made the planks on a ship?

Holden A. Goose

Is that one spongebob episode an accurate depiction of nematodes?

Pseudonym Jones IV

The battlecry of some of the people in my HS AP Bio class was "Giant Australian Earthworm! 10 feet long! 1 foot in diameter! And the only way you can kill it is with a chainsaw!" No idea where they got their info, but even back in the 1900s, I found it sus.

Olivia

how can i tell which end is the worm butt?
