I mentioned this on facebook a few days ago and this morning, but I wanted to take a moment to say it here too in case there are those of you who aren't fb buddies, and because I don't plan on making a video about this (because that would be a mess).

A little over a week ago, my dad passed away. It was unexpected. Since then I have been trying to put on a good face in our shared spheres, but in real life, I have been having a hard time reconciling a lot of different feelings, and struggling just navigating days in general. Sometimes I am fine, and sometimes I am not. My relationship with my dad was very complicated. I keep fluctuating between being angry, and being sad/feeling a lot of guilt, or feeling both if that's even possible. When I do sleep, I keep having nightmares about other people in my family dying, or really weird nightmares (Ex. I was Kevin Smith. I stole a rowboat out of someone's garage trying to flee from the police in the middle of the night, took it out into the ocean and tried to row over huge terrifying waves that I couldn't see in the dark). Sorry if that's TMI. I don't know what I am supposed to share and what I am supposed to keep to myself. Most times I don't want to talk about it at all.  I feel like some people want me to feel better by now, so I am trying to be the most normal me I can muster. Sometimes I am definitely not as efficient as I could be with certain tasks and my concentration feels strained. I feel like I am falling even more behind, which is not helping tbh, haha. But I am trying.

I don't understand death. I am not sure if anyone will understand what I mean. I can't wrap my head around it. I am not telling you this to share my grief. I wasn't planning on telling you this at all. But I have been thinking about life and death, and the astronomical odds it takes for us to even exist as we are, and even though I don't grasp death, I do know that we are lucky to be here. I am grateful I get to even type this to you. I hope you all have joy in your lives. I hope the people in your lives appreciate you, and that you can do the same for others. We only get to be here for such a small amount of time. I truly hope you can find what makes you happy, create, play, be proud of yourselves, overcome, love freely, be moved and inspired, and be kind to each other. I wish nothing but good things for you.

Drew Or Die

i'm so sorry for your loss i hope everything turns out ok

There is no timetable for returning to normal when death becomes personnel. I remember when my grandfather and favorite uncle died within weeks of each other on top of dealing with my father having a heart attack. I was a mess and it took a long time to find balance again. You are only responsible for one day at a time for as long as you need. Friends and family can help but no one can really understand the lonely mental journey you must take. I hope each day is at least a little better for you in this difficult time.

There is no "right" way to deal with death. Your feeling are normal... or at least, not unlike my own feelings when I've lost family members. It will get easier with time. Love to you and your family.

Heather, I'm very sorry to hear. Please take the time you need and work things out in the manner that is best for you. There is no way you are supposed to be so go with what works.

Grief is a process, dont feel like you have to hurry to "get over" this, just let it run its course and take good care of your special self! Sending love to you!

We're all here to support you. I'm sorry to hear you're going through rough times.

I understand what you are going through. Loss is not easy to deal with and it can be confusing. Just remember in this community you are very loved and cared for. You help many of us get through stressful times. And if you need us, we can be there for you. If you need time to deal with this situation, then take it. Youtube can and will wait for the all mighty FEATHER. Best wished you my friend and if you ever need anything from us, we are here for you!

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Barbara is absolutely right when she says there is no right or wrong way to feel. Just be as strong as you can be, and on those occasions when you don't feel strong, just draw strength from your friends here in the community.

Seconded, thirded, fourthed: You don't have to feel better on anybody else's timeframe but yours; it always takes way longer than anyone expects it to, especially if the circumstances are complicated. You're doing everything exactly right. <3

It may be that death is ungraspable. But you don't have to understand it. Just be grateful that you are alive now. I wish nothing but good things for you too.

That was an extremely beautiful example of pure humanity. Thank you for sharing. Sorry. I don't get death either. It freaks me the fuck out. Take the time you need. There is no right or wrong amount; just how much it takes you individually.

I truly am sorry for your loss Heather :-( I look at death as a reason in life not to dwell on things and to enjoy everyday as much as I can because its something we have no control over. I know this is my own opinion but we will never be here again and as frightening as that may be (it is) its also exciting to know we have a chance to make our own history and to be remembered by our loved ones before we die. I totally get what u say about being angry/sad at times with ur dad, its something I too am always mindful of. I even tell a family member i love them after an argument because i sometimes think of that being the last thing i could have said to them (which I would really struggle with 2bh). Thankfully I never argue with my fam & friends tho which is a big plus! (I bite my tounge really REALLY hard! Haha!) Every person on this planet is a winner because we have all beaten tremendous odds to even exist in this world, and although life is cruelly designed to end, it is still a beautiful thing :D We are so lucky and privileged to meet the people we know and to share our life experiences with loved ones ;) Remember your time with ur dad Heather, the good and the bad and in time it'll make you stronger. Obviously I never knew ur father, but Im very confident that he would be very proud of the person you are :-) Stay strong H!

Heather, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. My dad also died unexpectedly a few years ago. Losing a parent is a very personal, individual thing. So my experience may not relate at all to yours but I wanted to share in the event my experiences are even a little helpful. What I learned from my experience: It is a very difficult thing to deal with. There is no timetable on processing grief. Some days all you can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward even thought that seems the most useless and pointless thing. Above all, please take care of yourself first. If you need to go AFK for a while, do it. If you need to distract yourself with work, do it. Peace, love and tingles. J.

I'm not christian and I don't really beliefe in life after death, but everytime someone dear to me dies, I think for myself "he/she wouldn't want me to grief, but would want me to live my life as good as possible" So I do not grief and try to live my life as I want to. If you grief or not will not change that they will live in your heart as long as you are alive and can remember them. That's the most wonderful thing you can do for someone who has died, remember them without judgement, just remember what they did while they were alive. As long as you hold those memories dear they will not leave your side even after death.

My condolences, Heather. So sorry for your loss. We are blessed with our time here, and we are blessed to share it as much as we can with each other.

Sorry for your loss Heather. I lost my father 20 years ago. The pain is lessened, but I still miss him. Not sure what your faith is but I believe I will be reunited with him and my loved ones again someday. Right now you have memories of your father. Hold on to the good ones. I wish peace and comfort to you and your family. Takecare
