New Poll - Vote to decide our next American adventure!
- The American Revolution 180
- The Spanish-American Wars of Independence 144
- The War of 1812 93
- The Mexican-American War 88
Dear Patrons,
As you will know from our regular newsletter, there's plenty in the pipeline for the coming months, from Napoleon's Marengo campaign to World War 2 and Trafalgar.
However, casting an eye beyond these exciting projects, we'd now like you to help choose our next mini-series!
Long-time patrons will remember that after our poll last August, we promised the next poll would include both runners-up - the American Revolution and Mexican-American War - and that it would be Napoleon-free. *
We've now created an All-American shortlist for Patreon Citizens and above to vote on - featuring four dramatic conflicts with major historical consequences:
The colonies are revolting! We'll cover the Thirteen Colonies' path from rebellion to independence, and explain how a political dispute over representation escalated into a global war (and why almost every cliche about this conflict is wrong.)
A continental conflict that stretched from present-day Bolivia to Mexico, with its roots firmly in the Napoleonic Wars. We'll follow the campaigns of Simón Bolívar and others, as an array of patriotic forces attempt to break the shackles of the Spanish Empire.
With Britain seeking to reassert its influence in the western hemisphere, and behaving VERY badly at sea, another conflict with her former colonies always seemed likely. What some have dubbed the 'Second War of Independence' saw Britain and the United States clash on land and sea, with the political destiny of Canada one of many issues at stake.
When the USA annexed the Republic of Texas in 1845 as part of its relentless westward expansion, it made conflict with the newly-independent and proud nation of Mexico inevitable. The war that followed would shape the North America we know today, with important legacies for both countries.
Poll runs for one week - we look forward to your decision!
