Dear Patron,

Guess who's back..

We're delighted to share the opening episode of our new Hundred Days series with you!

This episode covers the start of Napoleon's biggest gamble yet, as he makes his daring journey back to France, relying on reputation, force of personality and unshakeable faith in his own destiny to topple the Bourbon regime - before his inevitable showdown with the Coalition powers.

A reminder that this series will have four episodes - Part 2, covering Ligny and Quatre Bras, is expected in June.

Huge thanks to Chris, Patrick and Mike of PMF Productions for their tireless work on this episode, and to our series Historical Consultant Dr Zack White, host of the Napoleonic Wars Podcast.

And huge thanks as always to you for your amazing support. We know this has been a much requested and highly anticipated series, so we hope you enjoy it. Here's to the dawning of another epic Napoleonic campaign!

Honorio Navarro Mesa

Begin the Emperor's epic final campaign on this great history channel. Vive l'Empereur!

HyperSonicX

'Guess who's back' really sums it all up doesn't it XDDDD

TankerBricks

Question- Didn't you say in your Napoleon's Marshal's video that Mortier got an attack of sciatica which prevented him joining Napoleon at Waterloo?

Nate El

Vive l'Empereur ! Vive l’Empire! Vive la Revolution!

TankerBricks

I had tears in my eyes at the 23 ish minute mark as I guess this signals the beginning of the return of EHTV to Napoleonic content!

Juan Arocho

Vive L'Emperur!!!! What a great videoooo!!!

EpicHistoryTV

Yes, that's my recollection - he was willing to command troops but was barely able to move, and Napoleon urged him to look after his health instead. He ended up outliving most of them, until he was killed in the assassination attempt in 1835.

TankerBricks

Thanks for the reply! Health is certainly important!

MorningStar

Ohhhhhh I’ve been waiting for this. Love you guys.

SCL

He's back! Cannot wait to watch this video later. Thank you as always to everyone who worked on this episode and the rest of the series!

Tyler hammond

I look forward to seeing all 4 parts hopefully put into one long documentary so someone can watch the early compilation, the fighting in Italy and such. Then the napoleonic wars, then end it with the 4 part 100 days. An epic full day combined of his full military history!

Pedrobarra 10

Really hated where you decided to end the video. A great cliffhanger for sure. Can’t wait for the next part. Awesome video.

Alexander Frangie

A Masterpiece the soundtrack is incredible, and the quote "I seemed to have become a Frenchman once more" brought tears to my eye.

Christopher Turner

Amazing video and worth the wait!! Glad to get back to our roots!! Vive l'Empereur!!

Covfefe Dotard

Napoleon stands no chance The hundred days was a minor disturbance And I hope you do a video about the Congress of Vienna in more detail

HanzChen

I was so disappointed by the fact this is only part 1!!! I was so excited with the cliffhanger!

Marc Baudouin

It is here !! I am emotional 🥹😅thank you EH my weekend will be good. What a story this man had almost unbelievable.

The Guy With The Hat

The bit where you said "The first shots have already been fired" and then zoomed out to show Naples was some of the best editing I've ever seen. Masterfully done!

Honorio Navarro Mesa

Hi Toby. I'm writing to ask about something that's always puzzled me. Given that Napoleon had little chance of succeeding against a new Coalition in 1815, was it possible he would have waited longer for the divisions among the Allies to deepen? And would war have even broken out between the major Coalition powers, allowing him to then use the situation to return to France more safely and have more time to prepare? Or would he have lost more support from his loyalists the longer he stayed away from France? Would the allies have moved him from Elba to a more remote location anyway, or was that just a rumor?

pierejeezy

thank you for this great episode

Samuel Pattinasarane

Thank you so much for a great opening! For the Waterloo battle itself, please highlight the roles of not just the English soldiers, but also that of the Dutch, Hanoverian, Belgians and Nassau too. It's an oversight that's often displayed whenever we talk about Waterloo

Ryan Sharp

Is that AI Napoleon at 5:05!?

Toffee Hornet

What a brilliant score!! When will we get to have it?

Sung

I thought it's gonna be a 3 parts series but actually 4 parts! Thanks for the info!

Sung

I believe if Napoleon had stayed on Elba, he would have died even before 1821. He had to take the chance anyway.

Sung

Shout out from South Korea! Huge thanks to Toby and the Epic History team. Your epic narratives have made us feel inspired by history all over again. I actually visited the tombs of Napoleon, Davout, and Ney in Paris last February—it was a life-changing moment for me. Thank you again for your incredible work, and thanks to all the members who support the channel!

Line_of_Blood

I think it's gonna be a 3 part series

Medin Burnic

Hands down - one of the most magnificent pieces of art Epic History has ever produced. I am really glad you guys took your time with this. Well worth the wait! By the way - at 11:46, when the Russian army appears, there appears to be a space missing on the number of men. It is shown as '168,000men'. Very minor, but we all know you guys are perfectionists.

Cuirassier

WHAT AN AMAZING EPISODE The visuals, animations and soundtrack choices are next level. I absolutely love the fact that there was an increased focus on the “characters” in this video and how it goes “full circle” with references to previous episodes in the Napoleon series - the marshals episode, the pre-Emperor campaigns, 1805, the downfall… absolutely amazing.

Cuirassier

I also want to extend my appreciation for Charles - his narration is amazing as always! Hope he knows how much we love him!

Marek Václavík

What an episode! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for another masterpiece—I was in tears while watching it, and I can’t wait for the next episode. <3 You are the best!

Cuirassier

I may be looking to deep into it, but if you look at 6:50, you can see red under Ney’s blue sash - possibly a subtle nod by the editing team to show that Ney still had some loyalty to Napoleon?

Mohammed Alsaadoon

Even if moving him from Elba was just rumour, if it had come to pass, then Napoleon has no chance to ever seize the throne. He needed to act because he had no better information

EpicHistoryTV

These are all valid speculations, and we can only guess at possible alternate outcomes. My own opinion is that waiting longer would have allowed the Bourbons and royalists to more firmly re-establish themselves in France, and if he'd moved later, he might not even have reached Paris (except in an iron cage..) As for the international situation, it was a catastrophic misreading of the room by Napoleon. It was he himself who had effectively ushered in a period that was to become known as 'the Concert of Europe' - the idea that the Coalition would collapse, allowing Napoleon to return to power, was as much wishful thinking in 1815 as it had been in 1814. But still, he gave it a good go!

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Medin, good spot, you're right and we will get that fixed!

EpicHistoryTV

Haha! Nice idea, but a simple editing mistake, which we will fix!

Honorio Navarro Mesa

Completely logical. The ongoing divisions within the French army and people following Napoleon's return are more than evident. Nearly a year away from France gave the Bourbons ample time to garner sufficient support among both the population and the army. The clear examples of desertions by French soldiers and officers days, and even hours, before the start of the Waterloo campaign demonstrate a deep division within Napoleon's army. And many argue, quite rightly, that it was these traitors, turncoats, deserters, and spies who truly destroyed Napoleon's chances of achieving the victory he needed (at least a temporary one). Best regards

Sung

Such good eyes you got!

Eli Khanam

I don't know if this is just an issue on my end, but the resolution would suddenly drop to 360p and there's no way to fix that on Patreon compared to Youtube.

Stuart Walker

The story of Napoleon's return and the final showdown at Waterloo is an absolute cracker and even though we know the story inside out this first part was so good that at the end I was disappointed to have to wait to find out what happens next! Great stuff.

Thomas

Great as always

Vincent Gerochi

It’s crazy how Napoleon was so great, he advanced Europe’s entire military culture. He was so good at war, the world had to catch up to him to take him out.

Giorgi Omadze

Marshal brune also involved in hundred days campaign he was commanding II corps based at toulon to suppress possible royalist uprisings

Ruud van Empel

Your Napoleon videos sparked a deep fascination for me with him and his time. Now 6 years later im a serious collector of anything Empire and Napoleon related, got most of the more important Memoirs of the time, about 70, all 100 to 200 years old prints. Just finished Chaboulon (an 1820 print) and now reading Marbot. I visit Paris atleast once a year now for the Museums. Im very lucky to have this obsession, i spend all my time on it, and its because of Epic History TV that it started. Just wanted to say thanks and hope you continue the Napoleon videos untill we have seen every single one of its battles and big events covered!

EpicHistoryTV

Sorry, this is not a problem we have encountered, it must be a streaming issue at your end? Or only 5 days to wait until YT release!

EpicHistoryTV

Yes, we will be mentioning Brune later in the series, but his military role was very minor. Napoleon didn't completely trust him in 1815, which he later admitted was a mistake.

EpicHistoryTV

Amazing to hear, thank you Ruud, and glad to have helped to inspire such a deep passion for history!

EpicHistoryTV

It is, we tried using various paintings, but needed a little extra help to make that scene work.

TankerBricks

How do you think Brune would of fared if he'd be given a good command?

Alexander

This is amazing. I hope one day we'll get a video from you, like 1848, on the Congress of Vienna.

The Glorious Prince

Thank you so much, I am a full grown man... Why am I shedding tears over this... Thank you for this piece of art ,gentlemen.

Ian Simpkins

Phenomenal as always. Thank you for what you do!

TankerBricks

It's thanks to the Prince of Orange's Chief of Staff that some crossroads were defended! I hope that gets a mention next episode!

Eric Yardley

Best video yet! And that's not because you gave me a shout out at the end! Haha

Dane Dosson

Just watched Napoleon from Apple TV and I was so very disappointed

Alex Lee

the long awaited return and conclusion of the Napoleonic saga! Also incredible return of the new British theme from the American War of Independence theme at 16:19. Absolute cinema as always!

Covfefe Dotard

I see that now it’s available on YouTube but only for members when will it be available for free next week or this weekend

Martin E

I don't often post, never actually, but I am with this channel on yt since almost the start (March 2015) and I am so happy to see the video that started it all gets remade into the epic format this channel has become over the years. Thank you all for your great work and being part of my life. The narration and the music was the things that caught me instantly back then and only got better over time. I hope for a bright future to you, when this final chapter closes in the near future. With Love and for the Emperor Martin

EpicHistoryTV

Thank you Martin, kind words, and great to hear from one of our earliest supporters!

Job Franschman

This video concentrated more on Napoleon and his army and policies, but in the next episodes are you going to get into the allied armies more also? I get that your whole Napoleon series is seen from napoleon his perspective mostly, but maybe in this series some more details on the allies is possible?

Stuart Carver

Do you have an idea of who you’d have for each role in the campaign if you were in charge? Here are my thoughts… Minister of War-Suchet Chief of Staff-Bertrand Right Wing-Davout Left Wing-Soult Inperial Guard-Ney Calvary-Murat

Wilson Dring

I have been waiting for a Waterloo remaster since I was 8 years old in 2020, thank you so much for your outstanding content. I have learnt so much history from your channel since I first watched your world war 1 series at the age of 7 in 2019.

TankerBricks

Chief of Staff- Bertrand Right Wing - Suchet Left Wing - Ney Calvary - Kellermann (the younger) Minister of War- Mortier (I know he can't move anywhere but at least he's reliable) Imperial Guard- Rapp Army of the Alps- Clauzel

Christian

Simply the greatest video history series of all time. I can't wait for this whole series to be complete. I'll likely watch it end to end multiple times. Thanks for the great work you do!

MarbleHit

I hope that by some miracle you release part 2 earlier cause i cant wait!

John Wyk

Brilliant, thanks for finishing this series with a bang

Ywold

Any update on Verdun?

EpicHistoryTV

Delayed, unfortunately, due to technical issues. An update soon..

El Fuego di Alfa

Thanks for the shout out 😃😃!! Also luckily in a Napoleonic episode. The best subject of this channel.
