Dear Patrons,

It's a new topic for Epic History TV, but I hope you're going to enjoy 'Tragedy to Triumph: The Apollo Program Part 1'. It's a story that's familiar to most of us, but it never hurts to revisit these topics, especially when they're packed with such astonishing drama, sacrifice and achievement.

You'll also notice that the animations and CGI are out of this world. This is thanks to James Malcolm, a very skilled VFX specialist and dedicated space history fan, who created every aspect of this video. This is the sort of collaboration that's increasingly possible thanks to your support here on Patreon.

I hope you enjoy the video, and look forward to your feedback. I'll post the link to the YouTube version as soon as it's up. Napoleon's Marshals Part 5 is next! (estimating 3 weeks).

Thanks again for all your support.

Toby

You knocked it out of the park as usual! Thanks! Crazy, we landed on the moon just 71 years after the last veteran of Waterloo died, so people alive during the moon landing could have known him and others... And how we went from muskets to space travel in just over one human life time as well...

Ryan Kleissler

That was amazing! In terms of writing, editing, and visuals this is your best yet. Keep up the amazing work!

Jacques Mourant

Nice work Toby! Maybe soon we can narrate another space adventure as we continue to explore outer space.

Stephen Wilson

This is incredible, really excited to see where this project goes. Just curious, any idea how many parts this could end up being? Would make sense if there's three if the next one covers Apollo 9-13 given the line at the end, and then the final four missions and the end of Apollo.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Stephen! We're not sure yet, 2 or 3. We'll keep you posted!

Its refreshing to see something like this. I'm not really a fan of the Napoleon videos, nothing to do with you, Toby. Its just not an area of history which particularly interest me but I do enjoy this change of pace. This is a subject, however, that intrigues me. Not something I believe my University degree will cover.

Stuart Carver

Love the attention to detail here with all the types of rockets designs and walking through the sections of mission control. There was a great bbc documentary series about the space race in 2005 I think it was but I think you’ve outdone it. Hope we don’t have to wait too many months for part 2. Im assuming you’ll be covering the missions post the first moon landing as well?

although a very different topic then your usual video's, nevertheless very interesting and well done.

Ron Rozen

Absolutely amazing, anxiously waiting for the next part! Also, found out the correct quote is - "Houston, we've had a problem." and not "Houston, we have a problem." :)

Daniel Costa

Oh wow. Not only did we get an exciting new topic but this video is absolutely incredible: the sheer production value, the music, the pacing, how it approaches the topic and how it connects it to the events of the time. Amazing work, can't wait for the next part!

Alison Pulliam

By far one of my favorite episodes from you guys!! Incredibly well made and I'm eagerly awaiting your next episode!

Peter Morell

Just watched the first minute. It's so good, I had to stop. I need to make some popcorn and put it up on the big screen before I continue!

Robert Wear

great video. Its no napoleons marshals part 5 but its awesome ;-)

Patrick Macartney-Filgate

Amazing video as always! I noticed that the title of the video is Tragedy to Triumph, but at 1:31 it says from Triumph to Tragedy, not sure if this was intentional, but just thought I’d point it out. Looking forward to Marshals 5!

Wow, another unexpected yet amazing video, If this becomes a series it could become one of my favorites!

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Stuart! Yes we'll be covering the whole Apollo Program in this series.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Patrick! Yes the title card is a typo, thanks for spotting!

Rick Reactions

As always the production value is top-notch. Especially liked that you included the broader political and cultural historical context. Certainly puts things in perspective.

The amount of research and effort in graphic design — on top of the usual writing, narration, music and sound design — that has gone into this video is astounding. Congratulations to all involved. Masterful.

Just watched this. Outstanding video. I didn't know that one of the head scientist was a scientist for Nazi Germany. The recruitment of Nazi scientists post world war 2 would in itself be such a fascinating video series.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Jonathan, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the US operation to recruit German scientists was Operation Paperclip, there's been some good documentaries about it here in UK, and it's a very interesting topic. All the allied powers had similar operations of their own.

Jonathan Chitambar

Well I know what I'm spending my week researching! Interesting moral dilemma in recruiting ex-Nazi scientists in order to progress domestically. History has the best stories
