Dear Patrons,

As promised, a quick update on future plans, now that the Belisarius series is complete.

Next up is a two-part series on the Decembrist Revolt of 1825. For those that aren't familiar with the topic, this was an ill-fated attempt by Russian army officers (many of them veterans of the war against Napoleon) to overthrow the Tsarist government in a coup d'état. It's a fascinating insight into Russian 19th century politics, as well as a dramatic and moving story. I've written the script with research assistance from Moscow, and I hope you will find it interesting.

Then - as voted for by Patreon - a one-off special on 1848: the Year of Revolutions. Another major political event that largely stems from the Napoleonic Wars. With revolutions and uprisings from Paris to Poland, Italy and Germany, this will be a concise overview of one of the most turbulent years in European history.

Then - more Napoleon! Patreon members will be asked to vote on a short series, AND a one-off special, about the Napoleonic Wars. The  series shortlist has already been decided, and your options will be:

Italy 1796

Marengo 1800

Egypt 1798

Waterloo 1815 (Redux)

Production on the two-part series on HMS Victory also continues, and will slot in around these other releases.

There are plans even further into the future, but I think this is enough for the time being.

More updates soon, and thank you again for your support!

A Waterloo remastered?? Do my eyes deceive me???

Toby 🇬🇧 always setting the bar HIGHER! Looking forward to the NEXT series 👀

The Decemberist revolt! Can't wait for it You're really becoming an unofficial Tolstoy's Lore of War and Peace channel, anyone teaching war and peace can use your videos as background material of his book from start to finish haha

RP

Wow! Glad someone's exploring the Decembrists. One thing that always interested me was the Russians' differing perspectives on what Russia's victory over Napoleon actually meant. I have to say I'll be voting for Egypt, but if Marengo wins I do hope you'll do some justice to General Kellermann (son of the marshal), whose cavalry charge played a major role in the French victory yet was never properly recognized by Napoleon.

Astra Solace

Man, why do you have us choose between those 4 Napoleonic options, Toby? WE WANT ALL HAHA. I mean I think all of Napoleon's Italian campaigns, even the 1800 one leading up to Marengo, are worth a short series. And Waterloo 2.0 is an obvious one-off special. My heart says that Waterloo would be my one-off special choice, because going from your 1814 France video to 1815 Waterloo (1.0) tone, felt jarring. And I think we definitely need a very detailed final send off to Napoleon to cap the Napoleonic Wars. As for series, hmmmm... my money would go for the 1796 Italian campaign. Because I am hoping that eventually, perhaps months later, you would then follow suit timeline wise to do the 1798 Egypt & 1800 Italian campaigns too! Haha. But yea timeline wise, the 1796-1797 Italian campaign has to come first!

Astra Solace

A few of us have been craving for Waterloo 2.0, both on Patreon & Youtube. So yea, why not? The tone and pacing of the Napoleonic Wars before Waterloo was so good and immersive and unique, that the earlier Waterloo 1.0 video felt... super out of place lol.

Aaron Hernandez

Age of Napoleon is S Tier Podcasting done right The way he tells the narrative makes you really feel like you’re back in that time

luc

I think Marengo is the best choice for a unique video, with a big suspens all the battle and finally the victory at the end. For a serie, Italian campaign is the most famous and is studied in all military school (officiers)

luc

Also, Marengo is a decisive moment for the napoleonic regime

Marcos

I was starting to get tachycardic until the mention of the HMS Victory at the end... I thought you had forgotten 😆

Tom Vansel

Wonderful news! Though, I am all but certain the Decembrist Revolt and 1848 videos will be unintentionally timely.

Stephen Wilson

That’s gonna be a REALLY tough vote. As much as I’m excited as a series on Italy, Egypt and Marengo, a redux on Waterloo with the advances the channel has made would be incredible. Hopefully eventually all are done but Waterloo will be my vote.

Swagalag

Yall please pick Egypt 😭

Sean Fitzgerald

I don't see an "All of the Above" option :-)

Hisham Yousif

I'm stoked for all this. I watch other channels but your handling of each subject remains unparalleled - the aesthetic, the empathetic recounting, the research, all of it. I may watch other channels but I only contribute to one! Keep up the good work Toby and as always a tip of the hat to Mr. Charles Nove.

Astra Solace

I think ideally as mentioned in my above comment, the vote should be on which campaign/battle(s) to do first. There's still plenty of Napoleonic content to grind lol. Like there's Napoleon's 1794 Battle of Saorgio victory, his 1795 13 Vendémiaire. etc. Not to mention that since this channel has already covered battles that did not directly involve Napoleon, then we can go back further to say, 1792's Battle of Valmy, 1796's Battle of Fleurus, etc. Loads of battles that really sell how much France was in the merde in fighting for its post-monarch life lol.

Mathew T

I'm a huge fan of the Napoleonic age, but as long as you are producing historical content, I couldn't be happier. The writing and narration continue to be superior to all other content available on youtube. ONWARD, EHTV!

Marcus Cribb

Fantastic. I think I'll be voting for Egypt. Another interesting subject, complete with pyramids, plagues, Napoleon getting a messiah complex & running away (anti Bonaparte slant, shocking I know!!)

EpicHistoryTV

Stunned you're not going for the Waterloo remake.. !

mcmaha1

Hey, just wanted to check if I missed something or will there be no sequel to the Venice video? I thought it was a great opener, particularly the analysis of Venetian institutions. In any case, massively looking forward to the new content!

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, I was rather pleased with the section on the constitution! Unfortunately I haven't made Part 2 yet.. It lost out to another topic here in a Patreon vote, but I don't like to leave anything unfinished, so hopefully I can return to it at some stage.

Andrew Herbst

I have been rewatching the Napoleon videos over the last couple weeks, excited for the next series! Do you know off the top of your head if Lannes is significantly involved in any of those series options? I loved his story from the Marshal series. Also, do you have a short list of the one-off video options yet? Just curious! Thanks!

EpicHistoryTV

Yes, Lannes played an important role in Italy, Egypt, but especially the Marengo campaign. No short-list yet, I'll be asking Patreon supporters for their ideas, and putting forward a few of my own!

Andrew Herbst

Thanks for the insight! Can't wait for what comes next!

Derek Bai

Italy would be amazing!~

Kristian Nieminen

Italy or Egypt, both are, I think, the lesser known campaigns of Napoleon
