Dear Patrons,

I'm delighted to share our latest work - Admiral Kolchak Part 2 - covering the period of Kolchak's reign as 'Supreme Ruler of Russia', in the midst of a gigantic and devastating civil war. He faces internal enemies, unreliable allies, and the might of Lenin's new Soviet state, its power harnessed by the new policy of 'War Communism'. In this colossal conflict, can Kolchak hold the Whites together, and end the chaos?

I hope you enjoy the video. We have several more in production, including Napoleon in Egypt Part 2, Battle of Cape St. Vincent, Battle of Wabash, and several more (including WW2) in development!

In other news, after six years, it felt like a new channel look was overdue.. The Epic History star has served us faithfully since 2017, but in the next few weeks we're rolling out a new look for 2024. Here's a little peak at one of our new banners, I hope you like!

We are also going to be putting our Patreon communications on a more regular footing, with more updates, work-in-progress, AMAs, and other stuff - in fact, now would be a great time to let us know what, as a Patreon supporter, you'd like to see or know more about from Epic History!

Thanks again for your amazing support, and for helping this channel to thrive and grow!

Toby

omg FINALLY! And right when I get on my lunch break too! Y’all timed this perfectly my good sirs! Keep it up!

Adrian

Again I would love if you and your channel could touch on the WW1 air battle if you’re still interested in it. Either way I am grateful your channel even exists that you make these wonderful videos for everyone. Thank you for all y’all do!

Connor Hilchie

Kolchak may have gad his flaws, but he didn't deserve the end he got. At the very least he deserved a proper burial. Not thrown into a frozen river like Rasputin

Andrew Herbst

This is all great news! I personally love the updates, even if it’s just a few lines, so more frequent posts, letting us know what you are up to sounds incredible. I for one would love some behind-the-scenes clips of you working, and even of Charles reading, or the like. Love the new banners.

Stuart Carver

A brave and loyal man but perhaps blinded by his sense of duty and honour. I’d have taken that Finnish offer, needed to be cunning enough to not always play straight with potential allies, he could always have dealt with the Finnish once the war was won. Great as always on a very difficult and complex topic to condense. The into is the old one you had in part one which you did change for the YouTube version as it’s an inaccurate map of WW1 positions and combatants in November 1918. Also I showed my parents last one which they very much enjoyed but my dad did spot a mistake in Baron Toll’s note where the narration says “ we have provisions for 14 to 20 days” when the writing says 17 to 20 days. What I’d like to see??? Maybe a AMA livestream where you could answer much faster and get through more questions? Stuff on your favourite history books, series tv and even more of a peak behind the process of making the videos such as a mini docu film? Wish we’d got the funny quote when Kolchak died "Would you be so good as to get a message sent to my wife in Paris to say that I bless my son?" The commander responded, "I'll see what can be done, if I don't forget about it." the most Russian response ever 😂

TankerBricks

Looks good so far, can't spot any errors but I'm convinced someone else will: bit of note, a order from Moscow ordered the REVKOM not to execute Kolchak (either they wanted to interrogate him themselves or use him in their Red Navy - after all he was a superb Admiral. Also one of the Czech Officers Gajda who was dismissed from command of the northern army staged a attempted coup. As I said above others will surely spot the errors!

Gage Hardesty

Don't forget about the name Yekaterinburg because it has a "Y" in it not just the E alone

Liam Hughes

Love the content guys. Keep up the fantastic work you do and here’s to more success in the future 👏🏻🙏🏻

Gage Hardesty

At 27:39 when you mentioned about how Kolchak was the one man they needed to crush bolshevism, that was the same for Ulysses S. Grant he may not have been a great politician in general, but he was man looked up to, to try and annihilate the confederates during the American Civil War, I feel for Kolchak, he deserved better than a rotting corpse in a damn lake, but other than that great video Toby

Medin Burnic

Thank you for your work, Toby! The new art for the banner looks fantastic, but I do have to feel a bit sad of the retirement of this iconic star. Although, I'm quite glad this new year is a new era for the channel, and I am especially in love with the idea of more communication with the Patreon. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the Battle of Cape St. Vincent. Though I imagine it's a huge undertaking. I remember those videos of the ships in the Production News video. I'm always super impressed by the stunning quality in each of the videos. In the Italian Campaign series, Mantua has actual moving water, and large smoke is seen coming from the city. There is often background blur painstakingly added to each painting. There were also the hand-drawn paintings of the Austrian commanders. And in the Egyptian video, we had an epic scene of French Ships in the intro of the video. You just can't get any more epic than that!

Walter C

This was stellar and amazing storytelling as always! There is so much important history that affects us all today but we have little idea of the events and rarely understand the people that played the part in them. This did a great job doing that!

Tavana

Another absolutely amazing piece of work! Oooo regular video progress updates sound fantastic! Great idea!

EpicHistoryTV

Ekaterinburg or Yekaterinburg both ok in my book! The letter is E but the pronunciation is YE, which is why you see both versions.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Stuart! (it was actually a 14, just a slightly odd 4 in that font)

EpicHistoryTV

Thank you Medin! Great to know the small details are not escaping your appreciation!

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Adrian. WW1 air was has been an obsession since I was 8 years old, so yes, that one will definitely get made at some point!

Gage Hardesty

Ohhh, I see, it's just it seems a bit inconsistent to not have the Y for Yekaterinburg because that's it's pronunciation in international names, or at least when you look it up on a map, but if you're just putting "Ekaterinburg" as it's actual name before being fixed with a Y then by all means I won't let that stop you

Swagalag

Big mistake not taking that offer the the Finnish 😬

MarbleHit

First of all the video is surprisingly easy to watch,i didnt even realized it was already over,i wanted more of it haha. Great narrative as always and the quality seems only to keep getting better video by video. Also i heard that your collaboration with Warhawk fell through. Its sad because i really wanted to watch that Wabash battle :/

The Imperialist

You guys have alreaddy done So much good for us But I would love to see more more Country specific Histories like the Russian Video But With more Lenght I personally would love to see the History Of The Republic of Turkey from beggining to now and The British History From Roman times to ww1 or modern day

TankerBricks

Agreed. The Finnish offer might of relived pressure elsewhere- afterall Yudenich came within sight of Petrograd. So close yet so far! Also offending Janin and the Czechs was not a wise choice on Kolchak's part. I suspect had Kolchak accepted the Allied demand to control Allied and Russian Forces, they might of stood a chance, with a attack from Finland as well it'd be a close run for sure!

Samuel Pattinasarane

Perhaps videos on Asian/African Histories? Like the Border War in Angola & Mozambique, Russo-Japanese War, First Italo-Ethiopian War, Malayan Emergency, Philippine-American War, First Indochina War, Meiji Restoration, Indonesian Killings of 1965-66 just to name a few

Gage Hardesty

I noticed something in the end, and this could be a possible theory, have the Russians ever recovered Kolchak's body from the river?, and if so then is there a grave for Kolchak anywhere in Russia? Or is it that this is all false and that his body continues to be in the lake to this very day?

Nigel Pierce

Great videos as always!!!!…….butttt man I’m not ready for life after Napoleon on this channel

Nigel Pierce

Go sub to Kings and generals for stuff like that. this channels bread and butter is making videos full of campaign and battles

Samuel Pattinasarane

And yet campaigns and battles don’t just happens in Europe or the Americas don’t they? Tsushima 1905, Dien Bien Phu 1954, Adwa 1896, Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift 1879. They’re all part of major military campaigns too. Heck, the 1848 Revolution video wasn’t even a “campaign.”

MarbleHit

Great to hear Toby:)

Line_of_Blood

Are you watching Apple TV’s masters of the air mini series? If so, what do you think of the show so far?

Kevin Xu

I like how the series is ending with recommendations from an Epic History Bookstore, getting us casual viewers into the rabbit hole of history literature Would love to see some Napoleon spin off topics, Louverture would be a good one

Gage Hardesty

Found a typo, you mentioned that 5 million civilians were killed during the Russian Civil War, but in reality its actually 7 to 12 million deaths of civilians so trying to point it out

Gage Hardesty

Ok maybe another typo, apparently the gold reserves Kolchak had was 1600 tons total so once again pointing it out

EpicHistoryTV

Kolchak has no grave, and there would no longer be a body to recover..

EpicHistoryTV

I've seen the first episode! Looks amazing so far. By coincidence, I visited the 100th Bomb Group airfield at Thorpes Abbot a few years ago, shared some images on social media.

EpicHistoryTV

Hi Gage, that figure is an estimate of civilian deaths directly caused by the war, mostly through famine. Later in the video, we add the estimated deaths from the typhus epidemic, which is how we get to around 9 million.

Stephen Wilson

Really good video. One thing I think I noticed is the US flag banner is the current 50-star flag and not the 48-star flag it was during the time.

TankerBricks

Actually discovered a bit more about General Maurice Janin- hated in the White Emigre Community for his betrayal of Admiral Kolchak, apparently (according to legend) during the retreat of the Czechoslovak Legion at a station after he had betrayed Kolchak a local handed his some silver and said here is your thirty pieces. He disliked Kolchak for certain and the dislike was mutual. Kolchak did not like Janin either.

Gage Hardesty

"One legend has it that "Kolchak's gold," estimated at 1,600 tons and worth billions of dollars, was lost after his train plunged into the world's deepest freshwater lake from the Krugobaikalskaya line at Cape Polovinny." From Nasdaq.com to prove my source

Gage Hardesty

The latter part probably gibberish but the beginning part does show its estimate

Stuart Carver

Possibly at that point I guess the question would be would the whites have accepted that level of subservience to the allies or would they try and overthrow Kolchak if he’d gone down that line?

Hayes Orr

Another amazing video! If you haven’t already thought of it, I think the channel’s production style and history of covering naval engagements would make for an excellent one-off video on the Battle of Lepanto. It was such a massive and decisive battle and it isn’t talked about as regularly as battles like Trafalgar. As always, I thoroughly enjoyed the video and look forward to more being released soon.

EpicHistoryTV

Thanks Stephen, and that's a very good spot - I think worthy of the Typos for Merch prize for this video! Thanks for pointing it out, we'll be in touch to arrange your reward!

CP

I'm loving continued release of music scores, keep them coming! (Leipzig would be my choice but they're all so good!)

Stuart Carver

Oh ok then. Also at 8.34 shouldn’t it be 8 million civilian deaths not 5 included the famine and epidemic?

Tavana

This was absolutely amazing! I absolutely love your work!

Phillip Vladimir Klochan

Fantastic work as always. Still wonder if Finland could have made a difference. Especially since they did have to go through a war of there own against the Finnish Reds.
