UNCANNY AVENGERS Vol. 3 #24 (Patreon)

This week saw the release of my first issue of Uncanny Avengers! I'm so thrilled to be writing this series and adding a new chapter to this fun corner of the Marvel Universe.

Issue #24 and 25 of Uncanny tie in to Marvel's big Secret Empire event. The Uncanny Avengers, along with a host of other New York-based heroes, have been trapped in Manhattan by Blackout, wrapping the entire island in a darkforce field. Worse still, that field has given creatures from the darkforce dimension access to the city, so our heroes are in a tough spot fighting for survival and trying to save civilians.

The first draft I sent over was approved but, when I found out that Kim Jacinto would be the artist on this 2-part story, I decided to make some major changes to it. The original version worked, but it was much more jovial, with a lot of snappy repartee. Kim's artwork is beautiful, but he tends to draw characters quite serious and stoic. I realized that the ton and dialogue wouldn't play to his strengths, so I overhauled quite a lot and marked those changes in a different color so you can easily see how the story evolved between the two drafts. All the same major plot beats happen, it's just done with a lot more tension in the revised version that became the full issue.
