This was a fun story done for Marvel's Special Projects department; an advertising tie-in for the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie that was used for Post Cereals here in Canada. It's a simple two-part tale with a cliffhanger in the middle.

The toughest part of writing this kind of story is to make sure you avoid content that will make these family-friendly brands squeamish. I'm not talking about extreme violence or bad language (which I obviously wouldn't put into a story of young Spider-Man) I mean no punching, no guns, no explosions...nothing that might concern a conservative parent in the slightest if they look over their kids shoulder to see what's in this cereal box comic. Creating a Spider-Man story with minimal danger/fighting that still feels appropriate is pretty tough, but those kinds of limitations force you to find other story solutions.

My first draft of the outline had Spider-Man saving kids from a burning building, which I thought was exciting and solved the problem, but Post Cereal asked us to change it because we couldn't show kids in danger and fire imagery might scare young readers. Yeah, I know. Welcome to the world of corporate advertising.

Anyway, even with those limitations we found a way to make it work. I'm quite happy with how this all turned out and writing Spidey is always a blast.

Hey Jim how did you handle paying for art, colors, and lettering when you first got started? Kickstarters seem to be the way to start these days. Also what project of yours seemed to be tge one that got the attention of the likes of Marvel and Image? Thanks as always!

Hi Jim, thanks for sharing this. I only just learned about this comic and, having now read your script, it's a really fun story! Do you know if it is available to view or purchase anywhere? I can't find it online.

This comic was a movie tie-in giveaway in Post Cereal boxes here in Canada but once the movie marketing wrapped up it looks like all links for the digital version have been taken down because I can't find it anywhere. Sorry!
