Here it is - Avengers #675, the first part of our "No Surrender" 16-part weekly extravaganza.

Collaborating with Mark Waid and Al Ewing on this has been an absolute joy. Both of them are incredibly skilled, gracious, and hard-working. I've learned a ton working on this story with them over the past year.

As you'd imagine, building something on this scale  with this many characters was quite the task. We had spreadsheets aplenty and dozens of emails planning out the story progression (that I can't show you here otherwise they'd spoil future plot points) that were finally hammered into 4 months worth of story, and then 4 chapters within each month.

I paced out most of the issues, doing scene-by-scene breakdowns to figure out how many pages we had for each and who would write them. As you'll see on the pacing notes, everyone jumped in and made changes/updates/suggestions as well. It really was a collaborative effort.

Although each writer had their own sections, we all ended up adjusting dialogue and text no matter who originally wrote certain pages. Our goal was to make sure it read smoothly without too many obvious signs that writers had changed between scenes.

That said, you'll see the writing style, script format, and even font change on the master script so you can tell who did what. Don't tell anyone else though, okay? :)

One change from the final comic jumps out at me: In the script Lightning refers to himself as an "out-and-proud Latino superhero" while in the comic it's just shortened to "superhero." I think I preferred the earlier version, to be honest. What was the reason for the change?

We went back and forth on that one a few times. Editorial felt it sounded a bit clunky and unnatural in terms of how Miguel would describe himself.

On the pacing page there are some different fonts and colors - are the other fonts and colors where the others jumped in? Do you have a legend for that part?

Jim Zub

The main pacing notes are mine. Al's feedback is in the spots where the font changes. Tom Brevoort's notes are the red ones.
