Hey gang,

As October begins, I want to reiterate how much your support means to me. There are a ton of different things swirling around right now. As always, it's exciting and a bit scary.

Everything I'm about to tell you needs to stay under wraps for now. Some of it is good news, some not so great, but all of it is part of the roller coaster ride that is a creative career.

Okay, here we go-

• Marvel reached out and formally asked that I not post Marvel-related scripts here on my Patreon any more. The legality of me making my scripts 'public' in any form, whether behind a paywall or not, is a gray area and even though it's possible I could push back and win in time, it wouldn't endear me to the people hiring me for all kinds of cool work-for-hire gigs, so, after much back and forth chatter about it, I've agreed to let it go.

Although they could ask me to remove the 70+ Marvel scripts I already have posted here in my archives, we've agreed that the genie is out of the bottle on those and can't be put back, so as long as I don't make a big deal out of it they won't either.

So, in short, enjoy the Marvel scripts I have here. They're really good reference material. I won't be able to post future ones unless something changes. I'll still be posting scripts for my other projects though, so there will still be new content keeping this site rolling.

• The Wayward anime is not happening at this time. Manga Entertainment was unable to secure a production partner and nail down funding, so at the end of this month the media option will expire and we'll get all our rights back. I'll probably post publicly about this once that deadline has passed.

The producer I'd been working with at Manga was kind enough to give us a head's up ahead of time, which he totally didn't have to do. That allows my agent to prep meetings and see about other opportunities as soon as possible, and he believes there are quite a few other prospects for the property, so we'll see how that all goes. Fingers crossed.

Properties get optioned all the time. Walking Dead was optioned multiple times before it became an AMC TV show. Men In Black took seven years to be optioned and turned into a film. This is a natural part of the whole entertainment thing. I'm not going to dwell on it because that way lies madness. The best thing we can do is keep making stories we're proud of. The rest is out of our hands.

• The Wayward board game is full steam ahead and it looks like it will be released in mid-2019. There will probably be a Kickstarter campaign for a Deluxe version as well, with higher quality components, miniatures, and extra scenarios/characters. Can't wait for you to see how it's all coming together. Steven did a bunch of new artwork for it and it's really spiffy.

• I should be finding out in a few weeks if a new creator-owned story I'm developing with Max Dunbar (who illustrated the D&D: Legends of Baldur's Gate mini-series) gets the green light at comiXology Originals. If not, Max and I will probably shop it around to other publishers.

• I have some fun new project stuff set to be announced either at or just after New York Comic Con. Can't wait to talk more about them. Next year is going to be a blast.

If you have any questions or comments, please post them here.

Thanks,

Zub

Sorry to hear about Wayward and the Marvel pushback.

Thanks for convincing Marvel to let the older scripts stay up. They’re invaluable resources.
