One In Every Box (Patreon)

While digging through my archives, I came across this one-shot story and realized I hadn't posted it here on my Patreon. This was a 9-page short story produced for Popgun (the weird and wonderful anthology series Image put together that ran for 4 volumes from 2007-2010. Popgun is where Skullkickers first appeared, and this strange little story showed up in volume 3 as well.

One In Every Box is basically a 9-page riff on the trope known as "Refusal of the Call", where a hero doesn't think they're ready to take on the adventures ahead. It's simple, but Jason Ibarra's delightful artwork elevates it to something special. I'd definitely approach it differently now since almost nothing happens over the course of those 9 pages (ah yes, the decompressed comic storytelling craze) but it's neat to look back.

Attached here are the original script and the final 9-page story as it appeared in Popgun.
