Legends of Baldur's Gate: Outline and First Issue Script (Patreon)

I grew up as a huge fan and avid player of Dungeons & Dragons. Getting a chance to write a new D&D comic series, let alone one tying into the big launch for D&D 5th Edition was an absolutely surreal thrill.

My goal with the series was to create a fantasy story anyone could jump on board and enjoy, whether or not they'd played the tabletop game or the original Baldur's Gate video games. For fans of either there were little cameos and bits of trivia they'd recognize, but someone coming in fresh to D&D would be able to easily follow along and enjoy the ride.

In addition, I wanted to create a joyous feeling of adventure that reflected the good fun D&D players have around the gaming table. There's a frenetic energy that comes from a great game of D&D and I felt strongly that putting that banter and bombast into the comic story would get readers excited.

The response to the Legends of Baldur's Gate mini-series was very strong. The trade paperback collection quickly went to a second printing and I'm currently working on a second mini-series (titled "Shadows of the Vampire") that picks up where this one left off.
