Conan the Barbarian #0 (Patreon)

The first issue of the new Conan the Barbarian relaunch arrived last Saturday on Free Comic Book Day, and the response has been incredible!

In addition to our big print release, Heroic Signatures and Titan Comics have made the issue available online for FREE right here:

Rob De La Torre and I are collaborating extra-close on the storytelling and production on this Conan new series. I'm writing it "plot-style/Marvel method", the same way Stan Lee and Roy Thomas used to spin their classic yarns. In that approach I outline what happens on each page, Rob illustrates it and then I come back in and add the text - captions or dialogue - along with a lettering guide for Richard Starkings to show exactly where each caption or balloon can go.

Even though I've written over 8000 pages of comics, I've rarely worked plot-style. That said, I'm finding it surprisingly invigorating. Rob's a brilliant visual storyteller and being inspired by his bombastic page art in front of me as I generate punchy prose in the style of Robert E. Howard is a complete thrill.

You can check out my initial plot document (with upcoming story spoilers redacted) and the lettering script attached here.

Cannot wait for people to see issue #1 arriving in July. Make sure you pre-order from your favorite local comic retailer!
