To add context to Aldrin's first night in the village, he also appears to be going through Delirium Tremens. Not only has he been using alcohol to mentally numb himself from his past, he's physically addicted to it. He would suffer a number of effects drying out such as insomnia, hallucinations, shaking, and extreme feelings of hot and cold.
