I would think most millennials or older would remember texting this way. Everyone having a smart phone wasn't really until gen Z started getting old enough for phones.

Millennials aren't really young anymore. Mainstream media likes to give the impression they are in their 20s, but the current age range is actually around 30-45, born 1980-1995.
