LC - REN - THE TALE OF JANE AND SCREECH

Comments

Heida

I only recently discovered Ren myself so I still have a long way to go. But what I have heard I absolutely love and relate to a lot. I recommend Sick Boi Pt.1 and 2, Suic*de, Depression, Diazepam, Insomnia, Hold On, Lost All My Faith, Murderer, Seven Sins, Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla and How To Be Me with Chinchilla (just to name a few 😆). As for this song (or these songs), I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer on whether this particular story is based on something Ren experienced/witnessed or if it's even based on real people who's names may have been changed. But I know there HAS been a rise in knife crimes in the UK, especially among young people. The Tale of Jenny and Screech was released in 2019 and there were over 40.000 known offenses that year ALONE and ONLY in England and Wales, including over 200 homicides (of course if it were guns the death toll would be much higher but it still is too much). Either way, it's an amazing piece of writing that is beautifully performed. Not just the singing and the guitar playing but the acting as well. How he can change so quickly both in his voice and his face is remarkable (and honestly a little scary). It's a sad truth about the cycle of violence and how history repeats itself. I am so sorry that someone you were supposed to be able to trust did that to you. I'm even more sorry that you weren't believed and even blamed for it. Shame on those people. I haven't had experience with that kind of abuse but I can definitely relate to how the reaction to something (the silence) can be even worse than the thing itself. Or trying to 'heal' from it, which you never REALLY do. I haven't watched your Euphoria or Shameless reactions but just from the music reactions and a few movies, I appreciate your honesty and authenticity so much. Also, don't minimise your experience just because someone may have gone through "worse". My dad is an alcoholic and he was (and kind of still is) abusive. The trauma made me spiral into a deep depression and a horrible journey with self harm, which is kind of my addiction. I'm just over a year clean. I have also been diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and PTSD. I regularly suffer from panic attacks where I feel like I can't breathe and have to take an anti-anxiety medication, otherwise it could last for hours. I've attempted suic*de three times. Somehow I'm still holding on but I wake up just wanting to go back to sleep so I don't have to deal with all of it. I don't find any joy in life anymore. Your videos really help though so thank you for that ❤

It’s a mechanism, the minimizing bit. I mean it more in a physical sense. But I know I down play my own experience. And a truly healing moment happened when this person tried to do it again to my mom almost 20 years later. Emphasized on tried. When she told me what happened she said nothing happened between them but she all of a sudden 💯 believed me and apologized for like two weeks after that. A whole bunch of things came up after that. That meant she had some sliver of doubt that I was telling the truth, AND that regardless of that, she had my back. Such a mixture of shit. Luckily I was much older and had the wisdom to reflect and not simply react. But man did a sense of calm come over me when she apologized with the full knowledge of knowing I told the truth. It was some how different from when I was a child. Heida, I know exactly what you’re feeling. At least the little bit you just gave is hugely familiar. The only thing I can maybe give an insight on is that if the anxiety you’re going through is ANYTHING like mine, or even my lovely Audrey’s who was much more severe, seeking knowledge is usually what helped us. I feel like the real weapon of anxiety is it scrambles the thoughts, making it hard to focus and try to find a cause of why. But finding folks like yourself, checking out groups, talking to counselors, anything like this helps. Helps let you know that you’re not alone, that others have navigated passed it, that someone may be in the exact same situation and possibly overcame it….. all sorts of things. You are here for a reason. I know this. Put yourself in the best places to find this out for yourself. Oh! And a YEAR!!!!! 🎉 🎊 🎈 🙌 That’s so so so awesome 👏 Do you have a sponsor? They gonna take you to get a chip or something?

The Money Game Trilogy is kind of a commentary on what the "money game" means for society as a whole, what it is for the corporations and what that means for the 99%, and how it can shape the individual. If you do the trilogy, DO THE LYRIC VIDEO FOR PART TWO. Seriously. One of the only times you'll ever hear us say it, but the live version isn't a full version and the lyric video is top notch. I'd LOVE to see you react to Ren x Chinchilla - How to be Me (live). Bring tissues, as while the topic itself is heavy, the heavy-hitter is actually the way their voices weave together that will bring you to tears!
