When he said dogs aren't human replacements, it made me think of Life of Pi when Pi's father said something among the lines of the tiger not having emotions, its just a reflection of your own humanity put onto an animal. Don't remember it word for word but it always made me think.

Those Shameless in-between eps are on Prime (“Shameless Hall of Shame”). Six episodes each focusing on a specific character or pair of characters, with inconsequential new scenes setting up old footage. Kind of fun to watch going into the last season, but I don’t think I even finished the Frank-centric ep. He’s a lot lol

I was born 3 months early and was addicted to multiple substances, lived in the NICU for the first 5 months of my life. Transfusions, surgeries, died twice. Ahhh the wonders of having a drug addict mother. My lungs never fully developed and my immune system is garbage. These episodes always got me.

i feel so bad for izzie in this episode. sure, she's being unreasonable saying meredith was coming onto alex but nobody and i mean NOBODY will just commiserate with her and hate alex with her??? she just wants to feel like SOMEONE is upset with alex for hurting her and nobody is acting like they are. it sucks and they're being really bad friends

While rewatching this episode and the last episode with you, I thought I recognized the dad of the 4 babies (Tom Russell - the dad). It hit me almost halfway through watching your reaction that I do. Without giving too much away, the actor (Pat Healy) plays another character on one of the spin-off shows from Grey's Anatomy. He plays a character that I'm not too fond of in the show "Station 19", so it's nice to see him as this other character on Grey's.

As far as the emotional state of the mom, what Grey's never really delves into is that this is when most hospitals would get social workers involved. Most major hospitals have social workers on their service for exactly this reason and who would follow these patients and families that are dealing with a lot of medical trauma.

Fun fact: A lot of the equipment used for micro-preemies (if the quints in this episode were real, they would probably not be micro-preemies as they hit 32 weeks) nowadays was based in part after me. During the 2 1/2 months I was in the NICU after my birth, medical supply companies kept bugging my parents asking if they could come in and measure me - so for 1-2 hours a week they could come and measure me (while being supervised by my parents). So the things like diapers, oxygen masks, nasal cannulas, the various tubes, etc. - at least the ones in the 90s - were based off of my measurements, since the NICU nurses where I was born had to MacGyver equipment based on what they had. With diapers, they took the preemie diapers they had, folded them into quarters, and cut them in half. Or the opposite of that. I always forget.

i'm binging your grey's reactions to catch up with your uploads so idk if you'll even see this comment or if other people have already commented about it- but i saw that you started season four and i just wanted to say that you should strongly consider watching private practice. its the spin off of addison in los angeles and the first season aired concurrently with season four of grey's. it wasnt as popular as grey's but it eventually offers some very interesting insight into addisons character AND introduces some characters that i think you'd find really interesting. it also will add some context to a couple of crossover episodes in the future. but i understand you already have a million things to react to so it might not be in the cards. love your reactions :)
