The internet is horrifying I am desperate to witness examples of unshitty men, and if anyone can help me, it’s y’all.

Please tell me something you did—big or small— in the last week, to support someone in your life, or to fight the patriarchy. Like make coffee for your lady or teach a young boy how to help others.

Something you did because it’s the right fucking thing to do, not to serve your own interests.

PLEASE I’M BEGGING YOU

Helping a friend of mine learn about firearms tomorrow so she can defend against someone who violated a CPO and tried to get her daughter. Stood up for my lgtbq rugby team last night when some locals tried to claim the field we have a permit for, without losing my temper and slapping some white trash. Offered financial assistance to a friend of mine who is struggling with workers comp, and offered help last night when one of her cats was sick.

I'm letting the nanny stay at my home, rent free, until she finds a place for her and her son. She just left her religiously fanatic MAGA husband.

Everyday I share knowledge of some sort. Mental health worldwide is in the dumpster and people don’t step out of their echo chambers for clarity.

I’m a member of a Reddit community dedicated to reporting and banning misogynistic, harmful, and CSAM pages users and subreddits. I spend just a few minutes every day on there clicking that report button. It may not be a big contribution, but together our group has been able to take down a few hundred of the most disgusting and often illegal pages on Reddit.

I helped get my neighbor’s friend back into her wheelchair. She’s had a stroke and was kicked off Medicaid and thus out of her nursing home. They were going to take her to a homeless shelter in Baltimore but my neighbor who’s known her for like 60 years took her in until they figure something out. It’s more than she can handle, quite frankly, but I told her to call anytime she needs help.

I've been taking care of my mom's dogs while she's been in the hospital. She ruptured her colon at the beginning of the month, and is only now well enough for the next step in her journey: long term care.

I have no lady and no kids. I assume that's how I fight the patriarchy: (i) zero likelihood of inserting my patriarchal appendage into a lady's body, and (ii) null probability of raising a bad boy. On a more serious response, I just try to be a decent person and be kind to anybody no matter whether other people ruined my day earlier. I know that's the bare minimum, but I guess an autistic childless single man has no other way to be "less shitty".

My department head said that a professor was "too emotional" with her request to offer a new course next year. He deemed a first year political science course on gender and violence "too controversial". I'm in my early 30s and starting my third year as an assistant prof, but being a dude offered me a more valuable voice than her 10y+ of experience at the university. A few Y chromosomes speaking up was enough for him to—in his own words—"give in".

I went and picked up, and then watched both of our kids by myself for the evening, even though it was supposed to be my wife's day to do pickup. I did it so she could go have a belated birthday dinner with her cousins, and because she's a fucking rock star mom who deserved a break to get some time just for herself 🙂

Chocolates and favourite half baked cookie dough ice cream. Made coffees - always! Helped plan future business ideas. Just generally have a lovely time with my wifey type person!

I surprised my dad last weekend who lives in a different state and grilled us some nice steaks. I hadn’t seen him in over 2 years so it was really nice

I bought my girlfriend apple and honey flavoured teabags because she was just getting over the flu as Rosh Hashanah began and I wanted to make her recovery festive.

I'm realizing more and more how men are afraid to be feminists. Even if they managed to overcome the brainwashing inflicted by right-wing influencers, the most they'll say is just "I support feminism." They will avoid outright saying they are feminists. And their support will only go as far as telling their partners and female friends "they are right to be angry." I realized that is not enough. More men need to be okay with saying they are feminists. More men need to join the battle and deny the patriarchal standards that are destroying both their own lives and the lives of every woman around them. So I thought everybody needs to see men who aren't afraid to fight for women's rights. We have to show that it's okay to fight for the rights of every living being, even though we ourselves aren't a part of that group. I wanted to start by showing everyone that there's nothing wrong or performative about identifying as a feminist as a man. On the contrary, it's a very basic requirement if we're claiming to be supportive of this struggle against oppression. Identify as a feminist, spread awareness on the fight against patriarchy, and support anyone and everyone who stands against oppression. Break the chains of being just an observer in the battle <3

I identify as non-binary but I get read masculine pretty often. A young girl came into my store the other day to order a drink and I asked her how her day was going, and she told me she was really stressed out because she had gotten tickets to see the Deftones, but she couldn't seem to access the tickets at all. The charge was showing up in the AXS app and also on her cash app but it wasn't in the ticket tab. And she wasn't just on the hook for her own ticket but her friends as well. And they were expensive. I intervened and did my best to help and determined that it was sent through seat geek for some stupid reason. Searched Deftones in her email and that came up. She made an account, logged in, accepted the tickets. So yeah that's a story of how I saved the day for some 19-year-old latina.

I've been cleaning around the house and just taking on extra tasks to lighten the load. There's so much going on outside, it's important to make the home safe and warm feeling.

Cameron Grable

I took a homeless man to go get some food and a fresh set of clothes and shoes 🙂

Josef Svejk

I've been off work on worker's comp for more than a month, and I'm tying my best to be the cook in the house for my wife, and to handle more than my share of the kitchen cleaning (this always turns out to be the big housework item)

Wife is in a leg cast and I’m taking care of our 20 month old grandson. While his mom works.

I helped my 92-year old neighbour reset his password and renew an insurance policy online, because they’ve moved to virtual-only services and he’s used to renewing in person with a cheque. He gave me a jar of his backyard honey as a thank you 😭🥹🥰

thomas hendley

I don’t think I did anything different. I just try to be a decent human being to everyone.

Steve Gonzales

I’ve been with my wife for just about 20 years. Every night I do all the dishes and clean up after dinner. We both wash and fold all the laundry each week. We hosted our tween niece this past weekend while her parents were out of town. My wife has been working like crazy so I took the lead on absorbing the kid’s cute-but-endless conversations about Pokémon and the Wings of Fire books.

One of the desk staff in my building is an older woman who recently lost her son. She loves my dog (Leo) so when I take him out when she's working, I stick around the lobby longer so she can give him treats and scratches. He loves the attention. She loves spoiling him. It's a little thing for me, but I think it brightens her shift.

I helped a dude struggling to get a mattress he purchased onto his pickup at a Costco parking lot.

I rescued a mama cat and a couple of kittens from the bushes outside staples center here in LA (it’s called crypto.com arena now but I refuse to recognize that name and think the only acceptable name change would be something with the Kobe Bryant memorial in the name). Anyway the kittens and mama are being fostered by someone who works at the arena. I’ve taken them to the vet for vaccinations and microchips. And I’m planning to get them spayed (all girls) when they’re healthy and big enough.

FarHarder

Been supportive and taking frequently with my friends who were laid off. Making sure they were feeling good and helping them find new jobs and preparing them for interviews.

Ruairí Newman

Helped a distraught Ukrainian woman who was mugged and her phone, cards, cash etc taken. Calmed her down, and accompanied her to make a police report. Gave her what I could afford to keep her going, and arranged for a woman friend of mine to bring her back home. Asked her instead of paying me back, if she would use it to help someone else out, given the opportunity.

Alex

Little longer than a week, but had an informal meeting with the other techs in my clinic and shared salaries, revealing how little they'd been paying some people (primarily women), ended up leading to most of my coworkers leaving for better jobs with better pay and us short staffed, but I'd rather that than watch people get taken advantage of.

Doing my best to be there for my friends, especially women, to help with stresses and anxiety of living under this regime that, among many other abhorrent things, is determined to make The Handmaid’s Tale look like a happy Saturday morning cartoon. My 80 year old hippie mom moved in with me 3 years ago and I’m doing everything I can to help her, too. Sliding into fascism isn’t fun, but we need to be there to support each other and help push back in any way we can.

Instead of finding financing for myself to get a transplant, I have been helping others at the dialysis clinic I go to get funding for their transplants. Since, I have been on kidney dialysis for 12 years, most people wonder why I would help them and not myself.

Adam Lang

Cooked dinner for my wife. Picked up a co-worker who was having a bad day due to a male colleague was getting on her case

Adam S

Arranged for my 7yo daughter to meet with a biologist in her lab over the school holidays, as she is super interested in science and ecology and also an advocate of women in STEM (articulated as "girls are better than boys, so girls should be all the scientists")

My wife is not servant. It's still a partnership. We look out for and look after each other. I can't stand the "alpha male" bs. Lots of examples to give, but for today, I just made her coffee. I feel appreciated and I she does too. We're all equal, just in different ways. I'm not a spoiled child letting their mother do everything for them. I'm weaning myself off the toxic sites, but damn it's hard to avoid without totally disengaging, and we cannot do that.

Emmanuel Huguet

I don’t speak english now but I learn and when I know,I come with you nude

Patrickt2

Picked up my friend's kid from school and made her dinner because she was stuck at work late.

Justin Christian

Had a frank and in-depth conversation with my mentee on how to watch out for and identify some of the specific sexist shit she's gonna have to deal with as she works her way into the tech industry. Forewarned is forearmed.

Brickman

Make my lady dinner every night and her lunch for while she’s at work.

My son is experiencing his first breakup in middle school as his partner is moving away. I made space for his feelings and said things like, “oh, yeah, this part sucks. I’m so sorry,” and not the myriad bullshit given to me. And we hugged and talked a lot about them. It’s been a few weeks with ups and downs, but slowly he is becoming his silly self again. I’m so grateful that he trusts me to share, very unlike my own upbringing. On my last day of work at my previous job, a pretty large group of my old employees got together to throw me a zoom party and gave me a card full of thanks for giving them their start, mostly non-white non-men. I count this as the greatest achievement of my career.

Dr. Norp

Trying to spread awareness of the dangers of our country for marginalized groups across most of my social media platforms, even though I am at risk of speaking out as a neurodivergent BIPOC. Also in touch with several Discord communities and people in my town to see if we can be more organized and effective in surviving our current plight. Also teaching my daughter the reality of what is going on so that she is aware but also has hope for a better future.

Richard Hendricks

Served as the navigator while my girlfriend drove

Andres Espino

Well I don't know about the last week... but I think the greatest think I've done has been picking up a little 3 Month old puppy in Mexico out of the streets. I brought him with me to Germany. There was no way I was leaving him. He teaches me about empathy, true and unconditional love every day.

B

Last week I brought a cake (French apple) for my coworkers. It's been a rough month for everyone, so I wanted to help with their spirits!

David Kav

I know I’m late - but I am done being silent with the dystopia and bullshit all around us. I went to DC last month to protest against our current administration. My current single, next single and next album is basically all protest music. Doing this for everyone - and for my son.

Joshua Sanz

Late to the party, but, last night I taught my brother in law that adults solve their problems with their words and logic, where little kids think it’s ok to use their fists. Corollary to that, used rationale that a core differentiator of Homo Sapiens from other bi- or quadri-pedal species is our ability to control our impulses. Felt very basic to me, but I guess that’s where we’re at with coaching young men these days. :/

Ikq D.

I carpool my brother to his robotic team competition and be supportive of him doing them. It’s 2 hour drive. 4 hour round trip. I’m trying to do something that our guardian never did for me. So he doesn’t have to go through the same thing

Art Smith

We've been carrying for a friend and former co-worker who lost his second leg to diabetes in September (he lost the first 20+ years ago) while his house is altered to accommodate a wheelchair. Everything from driving him to appointments to. Changing poopy diapers. No regrets.

Dean Winiata

There a homeless man that I've recently discovered has a disability to, he sleeps across from my building under a bridge, there's a ritzy hotel and accommodation next door to where he sleeps, the people especially who live there drive past him everyday leaving their building no one stops or looks at him I was fucking discusted when I saw this so I go see him a few times a week now take him food drinks and tobacco he really appreciates it.

Dean Winiata

Also there are new laws here in Oz now like the US that your not allowed to bag out Israel or the government on social media or you get charged and jailed, I stuck it to our weak ass government two days ago calling them all sorts of nice names lol

Jeffrey Melton

Quit my job as a senior engineer so I could drive my son to a school 75 minutes away in another state after he started having mental health issues. Drove him to school or picked him up pretty much every school day for nine years. Don’t regret it. That’s what you do for your kids. Also, my friend’s mother is dying of cancer in a town that’s a 10 hour drive from us. So my friend’s mother is spending a lot of time on the road to visit and stay with her mom. When she’s gone, I drive her son to drum practice. It’s a 75 minute round trip for me, but so what. You need to look out for your people…

Misused Adrenaline Junkie

I was at a ski resort last week and was going to head down a gondola, saw a mom and young daughter falling on the escalator (ski boots suck to walk in) and I quickly hit the emergency stop and they were able to get up once the escalator was stopped. No injuries and they were able to go down fine after collecting themselves. Always look for the Exits and E-Stops 👀
