Meditation is good for you or whatever (eye roll) but for some people it can feel fucking impossible. As a neuroscientist I suggest a MORE URGENT SKILL you need as a daily practice. Especially for men’s mental health.

At a random time in the flow of your day, take 2 minutes to check in with your physical body sensations. Where are you feeling tight or tense, where do you feel heat or cold, what parts feel “activated” or “deactivated”?

The training goal is to get faster and more accurate at identifying these sensations every time you go to check, and to start doing it more automatically throughout the day. Why?  If you don’t know how you FEEL PHYSICALLY, it’s impossible to know how you feel EMOTIONALLY.

And, bonus: people who are better at recognizing their own sensations & feelings, are literally better at understanding how other people are feeling. Kinda useful and important.

My takeaway from the first diagram is that depression protects you from the Predator, but Spiderman is filled with shame.

Pride and anger look very similar. Also, meditation is easier if you aren't trying to stop your thoughts.
